J.D. Brick – Shelter From the Storm

REVIEW

If you read Book 1, which I really liked, then you know why I chose to read this book.  Book 1 had left the reader on a cliff.

I enjoyed the twists and turns that the story followed in Shelter From the Storm. The legal aspects of the story completely sucked me in. I found the complications and resolutions  completely satisfying. Most importantly, awesome HEA!

I liked how the side characters continued to create havoc in Keegan and Blue’s lives.  It definitely helped move the story line along.

BLURB

The epic love story that began in Tangled Up in Blue continues in Shelter from the Storm

College students Keegan and Blue find themselves at the center of a storm of their own making. Blue is called to account for his actions when he was a soldier in Afghanistan. He tries to do the right thing. But almost overnight, he is enveloped in a raging controversy that threatens the well-being of everyone close to him, especially the girl he so desperately loves.

As their relationship is put to a thunderous test, Keegan and Blue take comfort in each other. Every choice they make, though, comes at a cost. Lies are exposed. Vengeance is taken. But the demands of justice and the merciless machinations of fate seem to offer no escape.

REVIEW

BEST of the Trident Security Series!! Samantha Cole is one of the few authors that gets how to balance Romance and Suspense perfectly.  She keeps the two elements distinct, but gives equal importance to each.  The romantic side is HOT! She also has an extreme talent for writing gritty crime scenes without crossing the lines that make romance readers want to stop reading.

Brody has two fantastic sides: a hard chiseled body and a soft caring side. He’s incredibly patient, too.  I love how he recognizes the difference between making love and passionate sex.

Fancy, short for Francine, is baker.  A girl after my own heart as I love to bake.  I found it easy to relate to her and therefore immediately got sucked into the story.

I really respect how the author incorporated the side characters.  I won’t give away spoilers.  Even though their lines were minimal their roles were significant.  For me, the use of these characters make this my favorite book in the series!

Of course Trident Security Book 7 (CARTER’S STORY) is set to be released in Oct. 2016. YES! Sigh! Drool! Heart Flutter, 😉

BLURB

All around him, Brody ‘Egghead’ Evans’s Trident Security teammates have fallen in love and gotten their happily ever after. Ironically, they had always thought the charismatic Dominant would be the first one to fall—not the last. While helping his boss’s fiancée find a new bakery for their wedding cake, he finds himself drooling—not over the delicious confections, but the sweet baker who’d created them.

The lone survivor, Francine ‘Fancy’ Maguire’s world was destroyed when her husband and unborn baby perished in a horrific car accident. Three years later, she is finally shedding the dark shroud she was existing under and starting to live once more. When a handsome customer takes an interest in her, he sparks something deep within her that she never expected to feel again. But will she dare to give love another try?

With a killer on the loose and an unknown vandal targeting Fancy’s business, Brody finds plenty of reasons to keep her close. Can he break through the steel barrier she has wrapped around her heart? Or will he lose her before he can convince her to take a second chance on love?

Celebrating Authors/Books that I didn’t blog about but haven’t forgotten (Week 4 – Strong Sexy Supermales)

Throw Back Thursday.png

Week 4 – Strong Sexy Supermales

Kristen Ashley

Chaos:  Tough biker dudes were a bit hard to warm up to, but once I did – oh my my.  A great exploration of balancing of whether you can like someone in spite of their faults.  Once you get acquainted with the biker-lingo, you won’t be able to put this series down.  It is incredibly hot how the male characters in this series can convey emotion and intent with so few words.  They say what they mean.  There are no head games or trying to read between the lines.  While it is done in a very bossy sort of way, it is also refreshing and provocative all at the same time.

Dream Man Series:  Badass Commando, sexy DEA Agent, honorable police officer, and righteous biker make for some hot tales.  It is very difficult for me to decide which highly protective character should win the most desirable.  However, in Wild Man, Brock’s appreciation for Tessa’s cupcakes (not a euphemism) earns him my vote. Gotta love a guy that has a sweet tooth and an amazing body.

Maya Banks

Sweet Series:  This series is absolutely flipping amazing.  New to the sex club scene?  Read these books!  Sex, action, and romance, this series has it all.  (A little menagerie, too)  I cannot say that I have a favorite in the series, because they are all great.  I suggest reading them in order, because the characters develop throughout the series.

KGI Series:  I love feeling broken hearted when reading a book, when not all the facts are revealed to the reader.  An emotional roller coaster makes for a great read.  Very much enjoyed the book.  There are many other books in this series and they are on my list to read.

Shayla Black

Wicked Lovers Series:  Damn!  These men are scaldingly hot.  The danger elements of the story are intriguing, but the explicit scenes are sensational!

Rhyannon Byrd

Dangerous Tides:  Lawmen that go above and beyond their duty. Saturated with suspense and sensuality – super!

Jaci Burton

Play by Play Series:   I cannot get enough of this series!  My life comes to a halt when I bring one of these books home.  Ripped sports guys that have depth, too.  The characters are amazing and I adore how  the characters from all the books are intertwined.  I’ll be racing faster than Gray Preston, in One Sweet Ride, to get the next in the series.

Anne Calhoun

Under His Hand:  Strong, protective Navy Seal takes his girlfriend by surprise.  Best kind of attack.

Lauren Dane

Cake – Hot-successful-badass artist is equally as gifted between the sheets.

Katy Evans

Real Series:  Remy doesn’t just have a succulent body, but a huge heart as well.  It’s impossible not to fall for this bi-polar boxer.  There is something completely appealing about a man needing a woman so much and not being afraid to admit to it.  Rogue is a spin-off in this series, and gets a thumbs up, too.

Lorelei James

Blacktop Cowboys:  Lorelei James has got the concept of the hot cowboy down pat.  These books have me singing, “Home on the Range,” where the women and men play, and they get laid many times a day. Many more in the series.

Rough Riders:  Bring a cold towel with you when you read.   These books will make you sweat like you’re riding the range in a midday summer heatwave.  Perhaps, I’m missing out on life by living in a suburb.  Many more books in this series to savor.  Hurrah!

Skye Jordan

Reckless:  A-list actor turned stunt man – definitely a strong, sexy, testosterone fueled male.  Will it be possible to maintain anonymity and privacy?  If you are truly in love, shouldn’t you be shouting it from the rooftops?

Laura Kaye

Hard Ink:  Ex-green berets have warm loving hearts as well.  A lot of action in these books.  From the violent incidents relationships bloom.  More to read in the series.

Jamie McGuire

Beautiful:  Greatest book combo ever.  Beautiful Disaster from Abby’s perspective and Walking Disaster from Travis’s perspective.  This is an incredible story, told equally well from both perspectives (not an easy task but done superbly).

Maddox Brothers:  Beautiful Oblivion:  A spin-off from Beautiful Series.  More Maddox Brothers – YES!  This book stunned me with the ending.  I can’t believe I got so caught off guard.  What an unimaginable surprise!  Maybe, I need to re-read it and see if I missed some clues.  It would be a pleasure to read again.  Excited for the next in the series.

Tawny Weber

A Seal’s Seduction – One thing you can count on with a  Navy Seal – a sensationally chiseled body.  Even if military men are not your usual thing, perhaps this one will change your mind.

Joanna Wylde

Reaper’s Motorcycle Club:  Wow.  It’s difficult to sell such a tough and crass biker as a good guy.  Kudos to Joanna Wylde  for making me flip over Horse.

REVIEW

This audiobook is read by Sophie Eastlake and Kris Koscheski.  First off, Sophie is phenomenal!  She’s one of the few female artists that can pull off a male voice successfully    (and more importantly without irritating me).  I also liked Kris’s voice.  I think it is a bit ironic that he spells his name with a “K” like the character Kash.

The book starts off with some graphic violence, that I really didn’t like.  I understand the need to create fear and an emotional experience, but I wish romance authors would simply fade to black.

After that incident, I really enjoyed the story between Kash and Rachel.  Their relationship seemed to grow at a perfect rate.

I thought that after the incident that Rachel and her roommate would have more confrontation or at least Rachel would more openly struggle to forgive her.

Beware!  Ends with a Cliffhanger.

BLURB

Undercover cop Logan ”Kash” Ryan can’t afford a distraction like his new neighbor Rachel Masters, even if she’s the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen. And Rachel would rather be a single, crazy cat lady than trust another guy, especially a gorgeous, tattooed bad boy with a Harley, like Kash. But when his liquid-steel eyes meet hers, it takes all of Rachel’s willpower to stop herself from exploring his hot body with her own. As much as they try to keep it platonic, the friction between them sparks an irresistible heat that soon consumes them. Can Kash keep Rachel’s heart and her life safe even as he risks his own? Will she be able to forgive his lies . . . or will she run when she discovers the dangerous truth?

Molly McAdams – Taking Chances

Unknown.jpeg

If you are a fan of Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire, I highly recommend this book.

REVIEW

Don’t judge a book by its cover.  I chose this book based on a computer generated recommendation list and a quick glance at the cover.  I admit that I didn’t even bother reading the book blurb – shame on me. Looking at the cover, I’m anticipating some type of menage story. Am I wrong? Apparently my guess was wrong.

This is a love triangle story (not menage).  The story is unique and moves quickly.  I was never bored.  There are some serious twists to the story (not going to spoil anything).  The heat level in the story is more sweet than sensual, but very heartfelt nonetheless.

BLURB

Her first year away is turning out to be nearly perfect, but one weekend of giving in to heated passion will change everything

Eighteen-year-old Harper has grown up under the thumb of her career marine father. Ready to live life her own way and to experience things she’s only ever heard of from the jarheads in her father’s unit, she’s on her way to college at San Diego State University.

Thanks to her new roommate, Harper is introduced to a world of parties, gorgeous guys, family, and emotions. She finds herself being torn in two as she quickly falls in love with both her new boyfriend, Brandon, and her roommate’s brother, Chase. Despite their dangerous looks and histories, both men adore Harper and would do anything for her, including taking a step back if it would mean she’d be happy.

Julie Ann Levin – Crazy For You (Divine Island Book 2)

51TOKVQ5dKL.jpg

REVIEW

This is a sweet, clean, romance story.  There’s a professional conflict with Sarah’s job intermingled with her attraction to Dylan. This provides an interesting strain on the relationship as well as the glue that binds them together.

As a whole – I really liked Sarah’s character.  She’s a strong and very giving person, which are precisely the traits that make Dylan attracted to her.  I should add that she also looks great in her tiny bikini.

Dylan is a nice compliment to Sarah’s character and personality.  It was very easy to want to cheer for a happily ever after for this couple.

The plot is rather predictable but the verbal sparring between Sara and Dylan truly made the book.  The author excels in writing dialog that is refreshingly new.

BLURB

Tropical beaches and a business trip that turns into a vacation… how did Sarah let this happen?

Dylan Hammond has one goal: convince his father that the family inn can succeed if he would just let Dylan take over. But when a sexy business executive arrives with an offer Dylan’s father can’t refuse, Dylan’s lifelong dream of running the inn could be taken away from him.

Sarah Battle believes she has her life all figured out. She has a great job, a great boyfriend, and the opportunity of a lifetime dangling right in front of her. The only problem is that opportunity – a huge promotion – will have her competing against her boyfriend. Suddenly, his gentle encouragement turns to bitterness, and Sarah is forced to do whatever it takes to win that coveted position and make the deal of a lifetime.

Things never go as planned. Dylan and Sarah find themselves reeling from the scorching chemistry between them, threatening their plans and potentially altering their future.

Forced to choose between the lives they thought they wanted and romance they never imagined for themselves, which will they choose?

Erin McCarthy – Fast Track Novels

Fast Track Novels Tweet.png

I got hooked on this series very quickly in the first book; I just finished this series.  Loved, loved, loved it!  While the racers (mostly male but one woman as well) get all hot and sweaty in their cars, I was also feeling a bit hot under the collar.  The heat isn’t just left on the racetrack.  The couples burn up the sheets as well.  The stories are hot, fun, and great page-turners.  The interaction between this group of characters is flawless.  The threads that tie the books together works perfectly. I highly recommend this series!

Week 3 – Hot Rock Star Heroes

Olivia Cunning

Sinners on Tour

OMG!  These are perhaps some of the best characters ever! I refuse to admit how many times I’ve read this series – it really is that sensational.  The author wickedly turned five, hot, slutty, rock stars into lovable characters.  The only negative thing I can say is that Sinners at the Alter, left me dying to hear more about Trey’s story (the author notes that more will follow in other books – I’m crossing my fingers)

One Night With Sole Regret

For those that enjoy a high sex to story ratio, the second 3-story bundle is for you.  I guarantee that it won’t disappoint.  There are two more in the series, but I’m waiting for the next 3-story bundle to read (I have little patience waiting for the next story to get published). I hope I survive the wait.

Lauren Dane

Brown Family

I want to be adopted into the Brown Family.  Each story is crazy exceptional.  There’s nothing that gets old about these stories.  These are a must purchase, but do not lend to a friend unless they sign a contract that they will return the book to you.  Laid Bare starts off the series with a bang, making you feel raw and exposed.  [Todd] “You’re bad for my self-control, Erin.  You make me want things I should’t want.” … [Erin] “Or maybe I make you want things you’ve always wanted and only now have a safe place to express them,” she challenged.  “Why shouldn’t you want them?  Why shouldn’t you get off on what gets you off?”  In addition, to some wild hot scenes, Lauren Dane draws out the reader’s appreciation for true love and acceptance.

Delicious Series

Great name for the series because each story is sinfully delicious.  This is an awesome extension from the Brown family, but great as a stand alone series too.  The friendship between all the women in this series can seriously make a person jealous.

Milk Chocolate Fudge – SO MUCH BETTER than semi-sweet

Screen Shot 2016-08-08 at 11.31.00 AM

Why did it take me so many years to realize that MILK CHOCOLATE is a MUCH BETTER choice for fudge than SEMI-SWEET CHOCOLATE?  The texture is smoother.  The taste is richer.  There’s a time and place for all types of chocolate.  This doesn’t affect my opinion on other uses of semi-sweet chocolate.  For example, who doesn’t like your basic chocolate chip cookie with semi-sweet chips? I guess I’ll have to make up for past indiscretions by making more of this fudge.

I used the standard Nestle recipe and simply substituted milk chocolate chips for semi-sweet.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 c sugar

2/3 c evaporated milk

2 Tbls butter

1/4 tsp salt

2 c mini marshmallows

1 1/2 c MILK CHOCOLATE CHIPS

1 tsp vanilla

Directions

Line an 8-inch square baking pan with foil

Combine sugar, evaporated milk, butter and salt in medium, heavy duty saucepan.  Bring to a full boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.  Boil, stirring constantly, for 4 to 5 minutes.  Remove from heat.

Stir in marshmallows, chips, and vanilla.  Stir vigorously for 1 minute or until fully combined.  Pour into prepared baking pan.  Refrigerate for 1 hour or until firm.
