Lorelei James – Chasin’ Eight (Rough Rider Series #11)

51tbROPVuxL._AA160_

Chase is a champion bull rider and is built like the athletic man necessary to tackle such a feat.  Ava, an actress on a break, dreams of riding him on a mechanical bull, but Chase has self-invoked a month of celibacy.  That’s a lot of pent of energy during a month.  After, the sex off the charts but the way that Ava and Chase help each other find what’s really important to each of them is even better.  Family is always a cornerstone in the Rough Riders Series.

While I suggest reading the entire series, if you must choose one – this is it!  Chase gives great sex advice to his friend, Ryan.  If you enjoy reading with a partner in bed, I highly suggest reading Chapter 15.  Sorry I can’t include my favorite paragraphs here.  Trying to keep the blog PG-13.  It’s a must read!

Lauren Dane – Broken Open (Hurley Boys #2)

Love this series!  Why?

(1) The characters from the first book are very much intwined in the second and their story continues but don’t detract from the main story

Natalie is Tuesday’s best friend and confidant, she is important to Tuesday.  Paddy is Ezra’s brother and important, too.  Getting a peak into the progression of their friendship is a bonus to this story.

(2) The theme of trust continues from book one into this book

Ezra says to Tuesday, “I want to be sure everything is all right with you.  If I can’t be bothered to take care of the trust you give me, I don’t deserve it.”

(3) the bedroom scenes are hot (really, it is the main reason to read romance)

I love the humor in the scenes as well.  Ezra refers to his amazing ability to maintain a hard-on under any circumstances.  Then there are a few instances where Ezra’s pets try to intrude.  “I warned them [the pets] not to cockblock me again.”

Even as a stand alone, this is pleasurable romance.  Ezra is a recovered heroin addict (and rancher, rock star, and animal lover) that is struggling with the idea of being with someone that makes him want them too much.  He is worried that his feelings are too similar to his cravings for heroin.  Tuesday is a strong woman that is struggling to move on with her life after her former husband passed away from cancer.  There are numerous issues that happen to each character that makes it seem more realistic as if their “real” lives continue to persist while dating.

Kelly Jamieson nailed in the first of the series, Rule of Three.  It was a fantastic hot menage story and the characters stuck in my head for many months after reading it.  I was dying for more after finishing the book.  In #2, the story continues but is more focused on the trials and tribulations of the triad.  Chris continues to struggle emotionally with his attraction to Dag.  All three have to address issues of how the triad is perceived by friends and family.  I would have liked a little more dialog about how each was struggling with issues.  Considering the fact that men in general aren’t that vocal about their feelings, perhaps that would have been too feminine.  Or maybe I’m just greedy and always want to know more about the characters.  I’m looking forward to reading the final installment, Reward of Three.

Kylie Scott – Deep (Stage Dive #4)

Incredible book in an incredible series.  I’m not just saying that because the main character’s name is Liz.  She is perfectly imperfect.  Yes, she falls for the bad boy rock star, befriends him, beds him, but is strong enough to walk away when she’s tolerated enough.  Ben struggles with commitment.  He has many yo-yo moments of pulling Liz in close then pushing her away.  He can say the most perfect thing. “Sweetheart, you’ve been important since day one.  Only girl I kept coming back to.  Didn’t matter how far I ran, I couldn’t get you off my mind.  Never been this way about another woman.”  As beautiful are his words, it’s not enough.  Actions can outweigh words.

As an aside, in a female bonding circle, Liz brags to the other women about the erotic benefits of Ben’s beard.  To beard or not to beard?  I can’t really weigh in on this because of lack of experience.  I’ve never even kissed a man with a goatee or beard.  However, it does beg the question, what is the hottest amount of facial hair? None, 5 o’clock shadow, 1-2 day, Goatee, Full Beard.  Purely from a visually appealing opinion, I’ld have to pick a 1-2 day growth.  (just an opinion)

Praise to the art of taking things slow.  Sometimes it almost seems like a lost art, but this book is packed from start to finish.  The awkward humor is refreshing and keeps you laughing.  Although I did get caught laughing a bit too loud while reading in a public place.  Oops.  Niall is a the kind of man that you can get behind and cheer for.  It is like rooting for the underdog at a sporting event.  Niall struggles with his confidence and identity but continues to try his best at making a go at a relationship with Ruby.  This is a fantastic series – don’t miss out.

Tiffany Reisz – The Virgin (The Original Sinners)

411tSYfCJpL._AA160_

The original sinners are the most compelling characters!  They are beyond any realm of typical, but what is overwhelmingly brilliant is their commitment to each other on multiple levels.  Their enduring love for each other is accentuated in this story, which covers a one-year time period where Nora, Soren, and Kingsley are separated from one another and then return to each other.  Their ability to forgive one another is profoundly moving.  As you find out through the story, sometimes it takes time to recognize all aspects of oneself and learn to appreciate all sides of those you love.  In addition, I would be remiss if I didn’t include some of my favorite quotes (that don’t contain spoilers):

“Ignorance is a poor excuse for bliss.”

“She survived the end of the world and found at the end a new beginning.  And if she’d survived the end of the world, surely she could survive anything now.”

Did you think I forgot about the sex?  Hell No!  It is a Tiffany Reisz book – it is always sinfully delicious.  Nora takes the virginity of a novice nun in a convent.  Kingsley chains his lover to a bed for an entire week.  And, Soren makes Eleanor forget her safe word and then pushes her to the point to where there is nothing she can do but safe word out.

Lauren Dane – The Best Kind of Trouble (Hurley Boys #1)

Wild rock-star heat with a real relationship to beat.  There’s no denying that Paddy is incredibly sexy and passionate.  He insists on perfection in the music that he creates. He takes charge in the studio to ensure it even it means occasionally brawling with his brothers.  He is also dominant when Natalie and he are going at it.  Natalie is a proper librarian and bit of a control freak by day but a dirty salacious girl in private.  This balance culminates in hot passion between the two.  But their strong personalities and stubbornness make it difficult to iron out real issues in their relationship.  Paddy feels an entitlement to Natalie’s trust because he worked hard to gain it.  Natalie struggles with a difficult past that makes her extra sensitive.  This results in a clash between the two.  Trust is truly the crux of all relationships and Natalie sums it up very poetically:

“if I can’t trust you, this isn’t worth the energy.”

“I can’t be honest if I can’t trust you not to be mad when I tell you how I’m feeling.”

This is a great start to a new Lauren Dane series.  The Hurley Boys follows after Lauren Dane’s Delicious Series, which followed after the Brown Family series.  FYI, you don’t have to start out with the Brown Family series and read in order, but the books are phenomenal and are a must read.

Two great authors. Two hot stories.  Love this Cosmo Red-Hot Read from Harlequin.

Letting Go by Megan Hart

This story is invigorating in the sense that it leaves the reader feeling the empowerment of Colleen.  It is all about embracing your own sexuality, which is the best way to find fulfillment.  Colleen finds herself realizing that it is okay to want and need and still be dominant all the same time.  It’s a big message for such a short story.

Seize the Night by Tiffany Reisz

A story with the recipe for the hottest first time ever.  Starts with a perfect kiss.  Add four years to allow your mind to dream, anticipate, and envision.  Sprinkle in a little explicit guidance.  Finally, add the woman of your dreams and the ideal opportunity.  What do you get?  The ultimate way to lose your virginity.  Besides, Julien and Remi’s amazing affaire, Merrick was an entertaining character.  His explicit mouth and presence adds comedy and spice to the story.

Kristen Ashley – Fire Inside

61zkaSTs2pL._AA160_

Once you get acquainted with the biker-lingo, you won’t be able to put this series down.  It is incredibly hot how the male characters in this series can convey emotion and intent with so few words.  They say what they mean.  There are no head games or trying to read between the lines.  While it is done in a very bossy sort of way, it is also refreshing and provocative all at the same time.

Despite being curt with his words, Hopper Kincaid is great at manipulating situations.  He is able to cloak an invitation with a compliment while making it impossible to be refused.  The best part of Hop is that he is astute enough to see through Lanie’s issues in her head that she doesn’t even understand herself.  He may seem very rough on the outside, but how much thought he puts into Lanie’s feelings, it is obvious that he is actually very caring.  When Lanie doubts Hopper, Hopper responds, “Lady, I’m as real as it gets.”

Lanie is beautiful on the outside, but her road to becoming strong and healthy on the inside make her even more beautiful in the end.  I love how she finds strength even when she is almost paralyzed with doubt and fear.

By the way, the heat in this book is off the charts.  What a great read!

Notes on Chaos Series: Own the Wind is the first in the series; Fire Inside (Book #2); Ride Steady (Book #3) will be released June 30, 2015; and Walk Through Fire (Book #4) will be released on October 27, 2015

Myla Jackson – Boots and Chaps

513dcC9-PKL._AA160_

This is the 1st book in the Ugly Stick Saloon Series.

Who says it is only a woman’s prerogative to change her mind?  Men should be able to change theirs as well.  Let’s hear it for a little equality in life.  Jackson may have originally claimed not to be into foursomes, but enticing circumstances brought him into the game.  His change of heart leads to some wicked fun reading.  The mischief scenes are hot and engaging with a realness that welcomely makes it a far cry from unbelievable fantasy erotica.

The women in this book are strong, independent, and aggressive.  Jackson may claim to be the master, but Audrey does a lot of topping from the bottom.  In addition, the women at the Ugly Stick Saloon on Ladies’ Night are fantastically unruly.

I plan to read more in the series.
