Amy Schumer – The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo

Review

First off, I listened to the audio book that was done by Amy Schumer. I would highly recommend the audio over the regular book as Amy’s well-honed timing is a true art.

Listening to this book was like eating a gallon of chocolate peanut butter cup ice cream. The ice cream is cool and refreshing, but it is really those tastey treats of candy sprinkled throughout that makes the dessert delicious. Did I mention that I’m lactose intolerant? So after eating the entire carton or reading her book, I vowed to never listen to her comedy routines in the future. I had more than enough of Amy Schumer. However, there were enough of those candy bites or humor to warrant a rating of 3 stars.

Her overuse of the word footnote started causing me to have an involuntary tick.

A couple of highlights included an explanation of her IQ and an incident with Men’s Health magazine. She explains that when she took an IQ test she tested as a genius in half the categories and incompetent (something to that effect) in the other half. After listening to her book, I would have to agree with her intelligence assessment. She can be an amazingly well spoken individual. The way in which she deals with an awkward situation with Men’s Health magazine demonstrates her high intellect and gift with words.

The Emmy Award-winning comedian, actress, writer, and star of Inside Amy Schumer and the acclaimed film Trainwreck has taken the entertainment world by storm with her winning blend of smart, satirical humor. Now, Amy Schumer has written a refreshingly candid and uproariously funny collection of (extremely) personal and observational essays.

In The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo, Amy mines her past for stories about her teenage years, her family, relationships, and sex and shares the experiences that have shaped who she is—a woman with the courage to bare her soul to stand up for what she believes in, all while making us laugh.

Ranging from the raucous to the romantic, the heartfelt to the harrowing, this highly entertaining and universally appealing collection is the literary equivalent of a night out with your best friend—an unforgettable and fun adventure that you wish could last forever. Whether she’s experiencing lust-at-first-sight while in the airport security line, sharing her own views on love and marriage, admitting to being an introvert, or discovering her cross-fit instructor’s secret bad habit, Amy Schumer proves to be a bighearted, brave, and thoughtful storyteller that will leave you nodding your head in recognition, laughing out loud, and sobbing uncontrollably—but only because it’s over.

Tiffany Reisz – The Confessions

REVIEW

This is a MUST READ! Okay, I would probably say that anything that is about Soren is a must read. But this really is worth it! I mean what was going through Soren’s mind when he first met Eleanor? The reader gets to be the fly on the wall for both Soren’s and Eleanor’s confessions. What could Eleanor have done that made her feel guilty? Bottom line, this book book is worth the price of admissions.

Orpheus’ Fallen Angel – Jason Price

REVIEW

I’m not a huge action adventure fan. That being said, the author did a great job of describing scenes with a freshness that kept me engaged. That’s quite a feat as I can get bored rather easily.

BLURB

In this dark erotic comic book crime adventure, Orpheus Jones searches the crime-ridden city of Plutopolis for his missing girlfriend Angel. In his quest, he encounters gangs, bikers, hookers, pimps, neo-nazis, crooked cops, strippers, evil doctors, duplicitous priests, dubious nuns and satanists.

One of the many adversities getting in his way is Moth, a lower-than-low level criminal with delusions of grandeur and Lady J, a high level shot caller who is second-in-command to Boss Creeg, the most powerful crime lord in Plutopolis.

Orpheus does however makes a few friends along the way, such as SpiderBat, a super-vigilante skilled in combat and stealth, the Huntrix, a leather-clad dominatrix-styled bounty hunter, and the Swan of Death, a sexy female ninja assassin.

During all this, Angel herself has been captured and suffers at the hands of the sexually sadistic Lady J. Can Orpheus rescue Angel before Lady J sends her to the waiting hands of Boss Creeg or will he have to deal with the crime lord as well?

Joshua Edward Smith – Gravity (Entropy Book 3)

REVIEW

Sequels are difficult to write well but a trilogy is even more difficult. Gravity offers a great end to this story. There are sufficient time lapses to make things more interesting. The change in relationship status between the characters over time is done remarkably well. I didn’t find the sex factor as compelling as in the previous two books. But hey, that is simply my opinion. Nevertheless, the ending of the book was sensational. For those, like me, that need to see the resolution in characters’ lives, this is a must read novel.

BLURB

A chance meeting brings Sir and Lisa together after five years. But Sir is in a budding relationship and Lisa’s life is in chaos. Could a radical change in Sir’s situation finally let things work between them? Gravity is a complex and moving exploration of the turmoil older people face bringing romance and commitment back to single life.

Although the third in the Entropy series, this novel can be read as a standalone.

S. L. Finlay – Billionaire’s Little Sweetheart

REVIEW

This is a sweet little taste of an age play story. I use the term age play over Daddy/little because the relationship seemed a bit contrived. In fact, Cindy is a drama major in college, which seriously affected the believability. If you are looking for something out of the ordinary, you might want to give this book a shot.

There were parts of the book that were done quite well – the kind that pull at your heart. I would give this book … 3 STARS.

BLURB

When Cindy, a broke college student, who is tired of eating ramen, and borrowing money from her folks for text books, gets evicted from her dorm after a wild party thrown by her roommate, while she was away, the wrongfully accused finds an interesting housing ad in the paper.

A well-to-do older man, will allow her to stay with him for free, in her own self-contained apartment on his property right near campus, in exchange for a few hours cleaning a week. The deal seems too good to be true.

Cindy meets the rich older man, and quickly finds she would have done anything he asked, even if she didn’t need housing this badly.

He seems to take a shining to Cindy, letting her know after their expectantly long meeting regarding the room, that it’s hers if she wants it. He can hold it for as long as she needs.

When she agrees to move in though, the older man gives her a contract outlining her life living there. She will not only receive free accommodation, but also an allowance for personal expenses. Among other things, the contract says that she has to call him ‘Daddy’ and consent to wear ‘approved clothing’ when she is home.

Even with the oddness of his requests, Cindy feels she can trust this man, so she agrees to sign her new Daddy’s contact, and hands over control of much of her living situation to this man.

When she hands over control, he lets her into his heart. This is a fast-paced, sexy age play romance.

Warning: This romance novel includes scenes depicting sex acts, BDSM, and age play. If any of these things offend you don’t buy the book.

REVIEW

Jessie and Katie make a delicious couple. Katie has that cherry-vanilla scent that Jessie wants to eat up. Their public displays of affection are crazy hot.

The thing that makes this story great is the fact that that the crux of all relationships is whether or not feelings are mutual. There’s both fear and safety in not actually knowing the answer to that question. Both Jessie and Katie have reason to question the motives of one another. The angst in Katie’s heart and Jessie’s passion drive this story.

Their is also a strong element of music throughout the book that really makes the story come alive.

BLURB

A gorgeous rock star. An indecent proposal. How can a girl resist?

Struggling barista Katie Bloom doesn’t even know who Jesse Mayes is until she inadvertently wins the coveted role of sex kitten in his hot new music video. But by the time she’s in bed with him, she knows his reputation.

Love maker. Heartbreaker.

Making out with a stranger in front of a camera crew isn’t how Katie imagined herself getting over a broken heart, but when Jesse touches her, sparks fly. The sex is fake but the chemistry is real, and soon the steamy video is blazing up the charts.

Then Jesse makes Katie an irresistible offer: act as his girlfriend for six weeks while he promotes his new album. The only catch? Their sizzling make-out sessions will be for the cameras only.
Which is fine with Katie, since she’s not about to trust her heart to rock’s most legendary lover. Her body? Maybe…

Brian C. Copper – Origins

REVIEW

This is a rare book that is written from a male Dom’s perspective by a male. It is a continuous flow of originality. Unlike most romance books that portray men’s emotions in exaggerated ways, David comes across much more real.

David is an interesting character.  He is confident from a young age. Seems to have endless patience, in total control, and has excellent intuition when it comes to people and what they need. He is the type of character that you want to know more about and what makes the book a good read.

While I really liked the interweaving story arcs, it made it a little difficult to fully enjoy the story.

BLURB

Book Two of The Fullerton Chronicles finds us venturing back to the beginning stages of several of David’s playmates. Each of them give us more insight into how David has evolved from his simple curious beginnings to a much sought after Dom. Interweaving story arcs trace paths across different starting points in David’s timeline. Each moving forward to the present, revealing more layers of who he was, will be, and currently is. This is Not your Dad’s Gay Male Erotica with BDSM themes. This is full-on Donkeypunch.

REVIEW

What a well-done action packed novella! I’m not usually a fan of novellas because I generally prefer to get to know to the characters more intensely. This story is full of tasty scenes that leave you feeling very satisfied like a 7 course meal. Dane is smoldering hot and posses all the wonderful qualities of a dominant romance character. The heat between Dane and Jasmine is searing.

If all novellas were this good, I would read more.

BLURB

When Dane Brawley whips out his cuffs,
there’s only one thing I can do… relent.

When Jasmine Archer purrs my name,
there’s only one thing I can do… relent.

He’s got talent’s I didn’t think a man could possess.

She’s got a body I could get addicted to.

Will one night be enough?
Or will Hollywood’s newest star and Los Angeles’ sexy cop find a forever in the City of Angels?

*This is book one in the duet and has no cliffhanger. Each book will feature a different couple. This is a short, dirty read. 18+ ONLY due to a filthy mouthed alpha and explicit sex scenes.

REVIEW

Finally!! Carter’s story!! :))) Admittedly, I’m a huge fan of this series and there’s a special place in my heart for Carter.  Needless to say, my expectations for this book were high. Samantha A Cole absolutely delivered and met all expectations.

Once again, the author does an excellent job of balancing the romance and the suspense. I love how the history between the characters had been introduced in crumbs throughout the past couple of books. No need to worry, there is plenty of recap in this book that if you hopped into this series, you would have all the information you needed to enjoy the story.

Carter is the epitome hotness and heartfelt. It was going to take a very special female character to satisfy my criteria for what I thought was his perfect mate. Jordyn filled the bill wonderfully. She’s strong and doesn’t fall at Carter’s feet. She’s careful and aggressive at the same time.

My only negative feeling about the book is the fact that we as readers may never read about another Carter threesome. That is a tragedy!

BLURB

The book Trident Security fans have been waiting for!

The huntress has become the hunted, in more ways than one. Jordyn Alvarez works for the United States government—a fact no one in authority will admit. She does Uncle Sam’s dirty work. Some might call her an agent, but few know her real title—Assassin.

Trained by one of the best black operatives in the world, she wants nothing more than to add him to the long list of people she has sent straight to hell. But she doesn’t dare get close to him ever again. If she did, she couldn’t be sure her body wouldn’t betray her once more and wind up in bed with him. But with her cover blown, she may not have a choice.

Who is he? He’s a ghost. A man with one name—Carter.

Jennifer Millikin – The Day He Went Away

REVEW

I admit it, I’m the type of girl that cries at those commercials on television where the military father unexpectedly reunites with their child and the child jumps into their father’s arms. Sometimes a girl just needs a good cry. This book pulled the tears from my eyes.

The story line is very predictable, but I don’t mean that in a bad way. It is a testament to the author’s writing that she still captures the attention of the reader. The fact that the author was able to compel me to fervently turn pages is amazingly beautiful. The characters are sincere and believable and absolutely sensational.

I don’t think I have ever said this about a book, but I think I liked everything about it.

BLURB
