Kristen Ashley – Walk Through Fire

Another hot biker book by KA.  Her books are absolutely addictive.  The bikers are very upfront with their emotions.  They say exactly what they mean.  It may be hard, it may be crass, but it is always real.

While there usually isn’t any game playing between and a biker and his babe, Logan is upfront about the game he is playing with Millie.  The secret between them is a wall that is keeping them apart, but the sex in the interim is phenomenal.

I love how KA writes and creates her MC world.  She never fails to give her characters individual voices.  Logan defies some of the usual biker traits.  He’s attracted to Millie, despite the fact that she doesn’t dress like a traditional biker babe.  His non-confrontational relationship with his ex-wife is pretty amazing, too.  But don’t get me wrong, Logan defines a silver-foxed hot biker.  His basal attraction for Millie and constant “sex on the brain” makes the reader sweat with need.

Millie is strong, successful, and loving.  She’s willing to sacrifice everything in herself for someone she loves.

This is the first romance book that I have read that realistically represents a modern-day, combined family trying to work things out.  The creativity and effort that it takes to make such a family work well was remarkably portrayed in this book.

Finally, I adore the relationship or lack there of between Logan and Alan, Millie’s brother-in-law.  The mutual lack of respect is humorous.  Logan’s final triumph put a huge smile on my face. 🙂

Dani René – Ace of Harts

AceofHartsFrontCover_NEW

Fantastic story arc!  Emily Reid is torn between two hot brothers: Triston and Bash.  They have a sorted past that makes them untrusting of one another.  It is this history that makes the story much more interesting and unpredictable.  The brothers’ mutual attraction for Emily Reid makes all those negative feelings toward each other resurface.  It doesn’t bring out the best in either of them, but it definitely heightens the sexual passion.

Emily is caught between them and not knowing what is true or possible between herself and either of the men.  It’s not just their eye color that differentiates them in Emily’s head.  Their actions push her from one man to the other.

Finally, a book that doesn’t jump into the world of BDSM like jumping off a cliff into unknown waters.  There’s a more gradual approach like slowly wading into a lavishly ensconced swimming pool.

In the end, Emily chooses the one that can fill her completely: mind and soul.

SOB Cover

The Chicago Fire is a hot soccer team, but the real heat in this book is between Levi and Vista.

If a parent tries take away a child’s candy, the child is more than likely going want to have it even more.  That was certainly the case for Levi.  His father insisted that he not date Vista.  He can fight the thoughts of her during the day, but is plagued with dreams of being with her at night.

Vista can work as much as she wants but there’s no way to get Levi out of her head when, “He looks rough.  Dirty.  Mountable.”

The sexual tension between Levi and Vista is palpable.  I almost hesitate to use that word only because it is often over used in romance reviews.  However, the mounting connection between them is practically tangible.

After getting caught succumbing to their attraction, they are ripped apart again.  But even after being reunited again, they end up being separated yet another time.  Their relationship is a bit of a roller coaster.  Considering their young age, it seems more believable than overly dramatic.

My absolutely favorite part was Levi’s proclamation of love on the Jimmy Kimmel show.

“You were right, princess.  It’s you and me.  So don’t lock that door just yet.  Make sure you leave a light on.”

Tiffany Reisz – The Queen

1687e16af4e2577274a3696e2b5e93e4

Sadly, this is the final book in this amazing series.  When I first got my hands on this book, I struggled with tearing into the book immediately and waiting to start and putting off the inevitable end.  Well, I couldn’t hold off long because I’m impatient and love my HEAs.

Tiffany Reisz is brilliant!  The characters are uniquely fabulous and extraordinarily well-developed.  She explains and justifies the rational behind each character in such a way that even though they may be completely unrelatable, the reader can understand them and appreciate their personalities.

This particular book in the series was fantastic.  It was great to see how Eleanor became Mistress Nora, the queen Dominatrix.  As the story in this series is told in time-jumping manner, it was like the author was saving the best for last.  The complimentary story line with Soren was sensational, too.  The connection between Nora and Soren in both good times and bad is the crux of this alluring love story.  I also loved how Nora considered how her life could have been different had she travelled a different path.

There are a number of overlapping threesomes in this series.  The concept of jealousy is embedded, ignored, and discarded in a thoughtful way.  The path all the characters take to address the jealousy issue is great.  Ultimately, as Juliette says, “Jealousy is a sign of insecurity.”  The fact that characters come to a level of acceptance is a testament to how emotionally and well-adjusted the characters are.

As always, Kingsley’s quick tongue is ever amusing.  After Soren notes that the bishop will permit Eleanor to return to church, Kingsley states, “How magnanimous . . . A priest and a bishop got together, had tea and decided you were worthy enough to attend their worthless relic of a church on Sundays.  You must be so honored they’re going to let you back into the Dirty Old Men Who like to Fuck Little Boys and Tell Grown Women What to Do with Their Bodies Club.”

With lines like, “You call it choking.  He’d call it foreplay,” the sinful sex cannot be unrecognized.  Just when I thought I couldn’t be shocked by Soren – I was stunned.  That’s saying a lot, after having read this entire series from beginning to end.

The Queen

There’s no doubt I’ll be re-reading this series.

Meredith Wild – Hard Love (The Hacker Series #5)

aaeb583f9f70a00bd321a3fb27e61768

This wild interwoven story finally comes to a conclusion.  While I’m usually very sad when a series comes to an end, I felt like all the story lines wrapped up appropriately.  Not everybody gets a happy ending but everyone gets their just desserts.

Erica attempts a little role reversal with Blake, which is hot and comical all at the same time.  All’s well that ends simultaneously.  (perhaps I took a little leeway with that quote) 😉

Blake finally has to face up to his bending of laws, which is great realization for him.

SOB Blitz Banner

Synopsis:

Levi Black is an s.o.b.

Born with a silver spoon in his mouth, he’s a pretentious, obnoxious, womanizing jacka** who thinks the world revolves around him.

He wouldn’t be wrong.

A famous soccer player, his skills on and off the field have won him medals, trophies, women, and the cover of every heartthrob magazine in the country. He’s broken nearly every bone in his body and a few hearts along the way, including mine—his stepsister—and lived to tell about it.

One night changed everything, and I’ve avoided him like the plague ever since. Just long enough to finish college, to bury the hurt, and to outrun the memories. But now that’s all changed. I’m back, and there’s no more running.

My hands are supposed to be my livelihood, but now they’re my curse. Levi’s reckless ways have landed him in a sticky situation, and his father has given me an offer I can’t refuse. One month, and all I have to do is put my hands on his body. Easier said than done. The problem is, even though I know it’s bound to bite me in the a**, I can’t bring myself to say no to the s.o.b.

Jaci Burton – Taking a Shot

9a577003afab814d1fa2f616ac8a84d8

Baseball season’s over and it’s time for a little hockey.  I realize that this is the second Jaci Burton post that I’ve done in one week.  There’s certain authors that are so good that you miss the stories and characters after you finish reading.  Jaci Burton creates sexy as hell professional athletes.  Her books are not only a must read, but fall into the category of great re-reads.

Jenna and Ty never quite seem to make it to an actual bedroom.  They’re quite creative and are willing to hook up no matter where they are located.

Taking a Shot

Ty isn’t just some good looking athlete.  He’s an incredibly perceptive man and boyfriend.  He understands Jenna more than she realizes and is determined to help her achieve her dreams.

Jenna is a loyal girl with a few hidden talents and some very provocative tattoos and piercings.

Unlike most stories where the man makes the big mistakes, Jenna is the one that needs to eat crow and do her best groveling.  Ty’s response is perfect.

Lorraine Loveit – Grand Final – The Last Game (Playing the Game #6)

AVAILABLE FOR PRE ORDER

As the series comes to an end, will Suzie end up with Brendon?  The entire novel leaves the reader on pins and needles, waiting the for the other shoe to drop.  Will Brendon return to his abusive former self?  I couldn’t put the book down until I had the answer.

With all the admirers that Suzie has procured, with whom will she end up in the end?

I love how this book separates itself from other BDSM novels.  Most other books have completely romanticized the concept of BDSM, which isn’t to say that the books are bad.  This series breaks from those predictable story lines.

1. This series shows that things aren’t always perfect in a BDSM relationship.  Doms, like Brenden, can be inexperienced.  He really had no clue how to be a good Dom.  In previous books, he never put the needs of his sub first.

2.  BDSM isn’t for everyone.  Jason states, in the beginning of this book, that Suzie isn’t a submissive even though he wishes she should would be his.  Suzie tried to be a good submissive but it just wasn’t in her nature.

3.  Even if you try the lifestyle, you can always stop and still have a kinky fun sex life.  There’s a whole lot of room for creativity between BDSM and boring vanilla missionary.  This is the crux of the heat and steam in Grand Final.

The racy scenes left me needing a cold shower.  Unfortunately, unlike Suzie’s numerous showers, Brendon did not join me.  Damn those book boyfriends!

This is a Must Read Series.  See Related Posts:

Jaci Burton – Changing the Game (Play by Play #2)

2d43e0e8320b4df2155158810a090f6f

In honor of the World Series, this is my suggested read for the week.

Check Out this cover!  Guess what … the writing inside is even hotter.

Liz is a successful sports agent and Gavin is one of her clients.  She’s been in love with him for years.  He is a professional baseball player that has true love and devotion for the game.

Gavin and Liz burn up the sheets (shower and other surfaces) together.  But mixing business with pleasure is complicated.  Throw in some deep emotions and the situation gets more complex.  Liz has close ties to Gavin’s family, which makes the entanglement even more convoluted.

This book is a grand slam hot romance!
