Laura Kaye – Hard to Let Go (A Hard Ink Novel #5)

Hard to Let Go

This is last book in this series.  Things are tense as ever as the dishonorably discharged group of Navy Seals attempts to clear their records.  As in the other novels, extreme situations lead to passion.

Kat is an intelligent and sassy woman that likes to tease Beckett.  I love how she’s nick-named him Trigger because he pulled a gun on her when they first met.  The funny part is how much it bothers him.  The humor continues as Beckett finally announces to his best friend and Kat’s brother that he wants to date Kat.  Beckett is all male and extraordinarily fit, which makes for some very hot partially dressed scenes.  Fortunately, half-dressed quickies is not the only tricks in his repertoire.  “I finally have you all to myself with no need to hurry.  I’m taking you to your bed, stripping you down, and spreading you out just like I said I would.”

If you’re a fan of the series, the author, Laura Kaye, is allowing fans to vote for which characters will be included in her next novella (a marriage between two characters).  Voting ends July 31, 2015.  Go to Laura Kaye’s website to vote.

Kristen Ashley – Ride Steady

Kristen Ashley’s books are amazingly hot.  It’s all about need, passion, desire, living in the moment, and there’s never any doubt how the male feels about the woman.

Ride Steady is about a man named Joker, aka Carson Steele, that was abused as a child and fell in love with a girl named Carissa Teodoro when he was a teenager.  Years later, he reconnects with Carissa when he finds her on the side of the road with a flat tire and an infant.

The dialog in the book is infectious.  First, it is very funny how Carissa starts charging Joker for every time he curses.  Second, while the language used by the Chaos crew may not be clean, the meaning is always clear.  Joker is short on words but communicates with certainty.  When he speaks I could hear the song “More Than Words” by Extreme in my head.  An added bonus in the book, Tack is a substantial side character.  He is crass but wise and it was great to see his character again.

I love how the Chaos family champions the relationship between Joker and Carissa.  It takes a push from family to make a person find the happiness that they deserve.

This story does have drama caused by a pain-in-the-ass ex-husband of Carissa and there’s always drama with Chaos.  But what struck me as unique was how their relationship grew not primarily out of the drama but on the day-to-day life.

Finally, the ending was perfect and Joker and Carissa find their Beautiful Life.

Butterfly tatoo I think Joker should get this tattoo, as he refers to Carissa as Butterfly.

Kelly Jamieson – Slammed (San Amaro Singles, Book 3)

After reading With Strings Attached, I felt Dylan’s pain of being cast aside in his threesome with his best friend, Matt, and Matt’s semi-girlfriend, Corey.  Although Matt didn’t suffer from lack of sexual companionship.  In the one year since his break-up he’s developed quite the reputation for being sexually indulgent.  The story opens with Brooke, a representative from his main money-making sponsor, walking in on him engaging in a threesome with two girls.  Quite a way to meet for the first time.

Brooke and Dylan end up mixing a lot of pleasure with their business.  It’s easy to understand how the two hooked up.  Dylan’s got an insatiable appetite and incessantly flirtatious.  And more notably, he’s got a delicious, perfectly sculpted, pro surfer ass.  Add a little massage oil and things easily slipped from business to pleasure.

All in all, this is a great series.  It’s easy to get attached to the main characters and the author does a great job of tying the minor characters throughout the story lines.

Samantha Cole – His Angel (Trident Security #2)

Okay, it’s official – I’ve fallen in love with this series.  If you’re a fan of Shayla Black’s books, I’m sure you will enjoy this series, too.

Let’s talk heat … the Trident men are both owners and employees of a security company as well as owners and members of a sex club.  The steamy scenes are deliciously descriptive and original.  I needed a cold shower after reading some of the them. But at the same time, the scenes include some humor.  I laughed when Ian said, “I want to thank then kill the bastard who taught you how to give a blow job, cause you’re so fucking good at it.  But I don’t want to imagine you doing this to anyone else but me.”

I love the intensity of the story.  The kidnapping suspense portion of the book fit within the romance story very well.  The characters’ personalities remained evident but adjusted nicely in the stressful situation.  In the middle of an escape, Ian pauses to confront Angie but insists that he’s going to hold her to their D/s contract as long as possible.

The extended cast of characters adds a lot to the story.  I enjoyed how Ian’s friends poke fun and embarrass Angie about her escapades.  I found myself actually blushing just as the character in the story.

Beyond the bedroom fun and killers on a mission, the relationships felt very real.  Ian is distraught over a failed previous engagement and fears “forever” relationships.  His hesitancy doesn’t feel false or indicative of a simple male stereotype.  In addition, Angie’s close relationship with her best friend, Jimmy, serves as a barometer to Ian and Angie’s relationship.  The interactions between the two men cements the status of the relationships nicely.  Finally, I liked how the author slips in relationship-oriented notions about D/s commitments.  Ian points out to Angie that he isn’t able to read her mind.  Communication is important in any relationship and that doesn’t go away in a D/s one.

I can’t wait to read the next in the series!

Lorraine Loveit – Time On Elimination Final (Playing the Game #5)

Unknown

Susie’s war in her head between choosing to be with Jason or Brendon continues in Time On Elimination Final.  She left the hands of one Dominant to the hands of another.  While Jason does have his own playroom, his style of dominating Susie is vastly different than Brendon’s abusive manner.  Jason certainly has his priorities in order, “Seeing to [Susie’s] sexual pleasure – in every conceivable way[.]”  He likes to keep his rules simple: trust and respect.  Jason seems to be the right choice.   He’s hot, amazing in bed, caring, considerate, and openly admits his love for Susie.  However, Susie can’t get thoughts of Brendon out of her head.  She also can’t seem to reciprocate the intensity of Jason’s love for her.  Her conflicts aren’t just between two men.  She isn’t even sure if she is cut out for being a submissive.  Jason starts to doubt her commitment to being a submissive.  Was it just a passing phase?  Was she just dabbling?  To make matters more confusing in Susie’s mind, Brendon is seeking therapy to cure his overly jealous and aggressive nature.  Even more so, he’s willing to give up all the painful types of kink for Susie.

“And that was the $64,000 question – would [Susie] be happy with that Brendon? Probably.  Could [she] leave what [she] had with Jason?  Probably not.”

Why can’t Susie seem to rectify her feelings?  It’s difficult when love is defined with feelings in your heart and not a quantifiable list in your head.  This difficulty is what makes this book a great read.

While this is the fifth book in the Playing the Game series, it can be read as a stand-alone.  The author does a fantastic job of recapping the story at the beginning.  Whether you’re new to series or just have forgotten what happened in the last story – not a problem.

Bonus: Book includes an excerpt form Grand Final “The Last Game.”  Be careful reading this, it ends with a cliff hanger that could lead to death in waiting in anticipation for the final book. 🙂

This book will be released on June 27, 2015.

This book is like a delicious dessert recipe that has just the right combination of ingredients.  It’s got a “sexy six pack” of men that happen to be well built ex navy seals.  Devon comes from a lot of money; but doesn’t flaunt it, act superior because of it, or use it to manipulate Kristen. He does own a sex club and is a well skilled Dominant.  I love how he humorously refers to Kristen’s ex-husband by an assortment of derogatory names like “goat fucker.” But Devon’s best quality is the way in which he enables Kristen to forget her displeasing sexual history and guides her to discover pleasure.  The sex scenes are hot!  There is also an edge to Devon that makes him come across as thoughtful rather than just a domineering ass.

Kristen is a relatable character – she’s a fan of romance novels.  She says, “Too bad life wasn’t a steamy romance novel with a hot and hunky hero knocking on her door.”  Who hasn’t thought that at one time or another?

Finally, the crime/suspense story line didn’t detract from the romantic story line.  It did leave me wanting to get to know Carter better.  I’m hoping to get to know him better as the series progresses.

Lorelei James – Chasin’ Eight (Rough Rider Series #11)

51tbROPVuxL._AA160_

Chase is a champion bull rider and is built like the athletic man necessary to tackle such a feat.  Ava, an actress on a break, dreams of riding him on a mechanical bull, but Chase has self-invoked a month of celibacy.  That’s a lot of pent of energy during a month.  After, the sex off the charts but the way that Ava and Chase help each other find what’s really important to each of them is even better.  Family is always a cornerstone in the Rough Riders Series.

While I suggest reading the entire series, if you must choose one – this is it!  Chase gives great sex advice to his friend, Ryan.  If you enjoy reading with a partner in bed, I highly suggest reading Chapter 15.  Sorry I can’t include my favorite paragraphs here.  Trying to keep the blog PG-13.  It’s a must read!

This series drives me insane.  Each new book I read, I say it is my new favorite.  Those McKay men are hot, determined, wicked, fun, and loving all at the same time.  The female characters are all strong and independent.

You know they always say it’s the quiet ones.  Well, Bennet McKay may be the quiet one in his family, but he isn’t anything but dominant in the bedroom.  He’s a cowboy with talented roping skills and knows how to yield a whip for more things than just herding cattle.  What makes him great is ultimately his ability to compromise.  Being a good Dom requires prioritizing the needs of the sub.

Ainsley is smart, successful banker.  She holds a powerful position at the bank.  Learning the power of being a sub allows her to finally find happiness in a relationship.

Bennet and Ainsley’s playtime at a club blooms into an affair outside of the club scene.  BDSM is not just about playing out scenes but has place in everyday relationships as well.  Just like any marriage between adults, this can take on many variations.

I appreciated the character, Dalton, who is young and falsely misinterprets the entire BDSM scene.  His moment of enlightenment was a wonderful way of explaining the intimacy involved in a BDSM bond.

Once you get acquainted with the biker-lingo, you won’t be able to put this series down.  It is incredibly hot how the male characters in this series can convey emotion and intent with so few words.  They say what they mean.  There are no head games or trying to read between the lines.  While it is done in a very bossy sort of way, it is also refreshing and provocative all at the same time.

Despite being curt with his words, Hopper Kincaid is great at manipulating situations.  He is able to cloak an invitation with a compliment while making it impossible to be refused.  The best part of Hop is that he is astute enough to see through Lanie’s issues in her head that she doesn’t even understand herself.  He may seem very rough on the outside, but how much thought he puts into Lanie’s feelings, it is obvious that he is actually very caring.  When Lanie doubts Hopper, Hopper responds, “Lady, I’m as real as it gets.”

Lanie is beautiful on the outside, but her road to becoming strong and healthy on the inside make her even more beautiful in the end.  I love how she finds strength even when she is almost paralyzed with doubt and fear.

By the way, the heat in this book is off the charts.  What a great read!

Shayla Black – His to Take

51H5mLVe89L._AA160_

What a potent combination: (1) running from a murdeous mad-man; (2) hiding in a BDSM club; and (3) sizzling chemistry between a ballet dancer and an elite military man.

Joaquin finds the Dom in himself.  His military background makes him a take-chargge kind of guy, but he has to learn to open his heart.  One of my favorite quotes of his,

“You’re like the drug that I can’t get enough of.  When I’m not inside you, all I can think about is fucking you.   When I am, I don’t think of anything but filling you completely and owning you.”

Bailey is innocent but strong at the same time.  Her emotional conflict brought a realism to the story.  She enjoyed being spanked for the first time but was too embarrassed to admit it.

Joaquin promises Bailey a sensational time.

“I love the sound of you begging baby girl.  Now I’m ready to hear you scream.”

Like the military man he is, Joaquin completes his mission and Bailey finally realizes the addictive nature of outstanding sex.
