Emma Chase – Sustained (Legal Briefs #2)

Emma Chase is a master at writing about arrogant men that you can’t help but fall in love with!

This book is hilarious!  I found myself laughing out loud while I was reading in public.  I got a few stares.  Instead of feeling embarrassed, I thought to myself – you really need to pick up a copy of this book.

One of my favorite parts that I can share without spoiling too much:

Rosaleen, the little girl, feels sorry that she just vomited in the kitchen.

Jake’s responds, “It’s okay, Rosaleen – it’s just puke.  It’s not a big deal.”  The dog then starts to eat the puke.  “See? . . . You did me a favor – now I won’t have to feed the dog.”

I most adore the tender moments.  When Jake admits while he is kissing Chelsea that if nothing more occurred, he could be happy.

With 6 kids (or cockblockers as Jake refers to them) in the house, Chelsea and Jake need to get a little creative.  The scenes are hot, fun, and desperately passionate.

All in all, HOT, FUN, & SINCERE.  Did I mention HOT?

“He’s the sort of guy who’d never be in any woman’s friend zone or brother zone.  He’s the sort of guy you fantasize about having for a lover . . .”  Saint is the kind of guy that makes for fantastic romance novels.

Would a man with a reputation for being a womanizer and that can afford anything his heart desires ever be interested in a single woman of moderate means?  I love that this story is told from Rachel’s perspective’s exclusively.  As the reader, we are just as much in the dark as she is as to how Saint behaves when she isn’t around.

Will he hurt Rachel just as her friend was dumped by Paul?  I found Rachel’s friend incessant reminding of her own personal drama absolutely annoying in a very real kind of way.  Everyone knows at least one person that can only see things from their own perspective and unsuitably try to project those same feelings or circumstances into other people’s business.

BEWARE:  Ends with a cliffhanger!  I immediately ordered the next 2 books.

Meredith Wild – Hard Limit (Hacker Series #4)

1a4a58778b8789c86cd1eb336f54b8fa

The story of Blake and Erica continues to be hot, sexy, and full of surprises.  As Blake and Erica have fallen in love, the heat and passion between them becomes limitless.

Blake shows a more caring side in this book, which makes him even more attractive.

Despite having enjoyed the first three novels in this series, I was a bit hesitant to read this book.  Other novels that revolve around to two lovers and reach the 4th novel in the series seem to fizzle.  That is not the case at all in the Hacker Series.  As I discussed in an earlier post, Meredith Wild has constructed a beautiful web of characters that constantly keeps the story fresh and interesting.

REVIEW

A Sexy, Sinful, and Sizzling Suspense.  I couldn’t stop turning the pages even though this isn’t the genre that I prefer to read.  This book reads like an action/suspense film or show.  In fact, this story is perfect to be translated into video medium.

The story moves along very quickly.  Time and time again I found my jaw dropping and thinking to myself, “Holy shit, I didn’t see that coming.”

The character backgrounds were well-developed and intriguing.  The author parses out the tidbits of information in a compelling way that entices the reader to turn the pages.

It’s difficult to go into details without spoiling this story, which would be a crime.

Lily Cahill – Exposed (Independence Falls Superhero Romance Book 2)

51z3-0MG43L._SX311_BO1,204,203,200_

This story takes during the 1950’s when many Americans were highly suspicious of Russians living in the U.S.  The disdain to which Ivan’s family has endured has scared him and turned him into a hard and bitter man.  At first, his gruff nature was very off-putting.  Despite this, some continue to offer him kindness that he fails to see.  It isn’t until June starts chipping away at his attitude does he find a way to smile.

Ivan is attracted to June. “Why was she so embedded inside of him? This woman with whom he’d shared a handful of heated words.  Maybe because she hadn’t balked.  She hadn’t backed away from his hard glare.  There was determination in her face, courage in her eyes.”

June is not without her own personal challenges.  She must break away from her ever pleasing attitude and not constantly succumb to other’s expectations.

Like many other romances, misunderstandings tear the lovers apart.  But what was unique here was the deeply rooted understanding between them that wills them together.

The “superhero” aspect in this book becomes a more prominent piece of the story.  Sorry but I’m not going to spoil the story line and give away too much.

I do love the romantic use of Ivan’s ability to make flowers grow.  He wants to bring flowers to June, but not just any ordinary flower.  He puts a lot of thought into what would be a perfect flower choice.  “June’s flower wasn’t anything he’d find in a greenhouse, or a florist’s shop, or even in a meadow.  June was singular, and she could only be contained in the bloom of his power.”

A man willing to put that much thought into a gift for a woman is the epitome of romance!

Chocolate Ombre Cake

Chocolate Ombre Cake

Ombre cake for a chocolate lover.

For this style cake, I coated the entire cake with a regular chocolate frosting (as seen on the top of the cake).  I made three other chocolate frostings: one with hardly any chocolate, one with some dark chocolate cocoa powder, and one deep rich dark chocolate.  I place numerous dots of the lightest chocolate frosting at the top third of the cake.  Placed an equal amount of dots of frosting of the 2nd kind of chocolate frosting in the middle third.  Then, I placed dots of the dark chocolate at the bottom.  Before the dots had time to dry, I took a spatula and lightly spread the dotted frosting around the cake.  The love how the texture of the underneath chocolate bled through the top dotted frosting.

I used a simple tie-dye technique for the top decoration, using same three levels of chocolate frosting that I used for the side of the cake.  I placed all three frostings into one piping bag and went to town on the top of the cake.

Inside Chocolate Ombre

The inside of this cake is a layer of whipped chocolate ganache.  It has the intense chocolate flavor of ganache with the lovely texture of frosting.

With multiple kinds of chocolate, it’s a chocolate lover’s dream cake.

Tie-Dye Cupcakes

HAPPY BAKING!

Lemon Bar Cupcake with White Truffle Frosting

Lemon Bar Cupcake

There’s bite-size lemon bar surprise inside each cupcake.  The lemon pairs flawlessly with white chocolate.

Shhh!  This is a relatively easy cupcake to make, but it will have guests thinking that you labored endlessly to make gourmet cupcakes.

First, start with the lemon bars.  Yes, I could have made these from scratch but a mix will do nicely because it isn’t the sole flavor in the cupcake.  Make these lemon bars the night ahead so that they cut cleanly.  I used an 8×8 pan and cut into 36 small squares.  This was the perfect size to place in a regular sized cupcake.

Second, any white cupcake will do the job.  While I used a recipe that used a white cake base, I added vanilla pudding which turns the mix more yellow than white.  The recipe is rich and moist and tastes great, but hides the lemon bar inside.  (which is why I didn’t photograph a split-in-half cupcake)  It may look better if you use a true white cupcake.  Place about a Tablespoon of batter in each paper cupcake holder, making sure the entire bottom is covered.  Press a lemon bar square into the batter.  Cover the lemon bar with more batter.  Reduce the normal bake time for the cupcakes.  I baked mine for 17 min. at 350.

I used a white chocolate cream cheese frosting.  This is a substantial flavor in the cupcake.  Quality counts.  I used Lindt White Chocolate Truffles instead of standard white chocolate.  Remember, don’t use chips instead of chopping up white chocolate bars.  It very much affects the consistency.

Directions: Cream together: 1 lb cream cheese (room temperature) and 1 stick of butter (room temperature).  Add 12 oz melted white chocolate and 2 tsp vanilla and mix thoroughly.  Slowly add and mix in 5 cups of powered sugar.   Allow to cool and firm up in the refrigerator until stiff enough to frost the cupcakes.  (not too long or the frosting will become hard)

Store completed cupcakes in the refrigerator.

HAPPY BAKING!
