Helena Hunting – Pucked

YAY!!  I finally got to read Pucked.  It had been on my TBR for a while.  I had heard so many great things about the book I was starting to worry that it wouldn’t live up to the hype.  NO  WORRIES!  This book is fantastic.  It’s hot, fun, sexy, and humorous – sometimes all at the same time.  The open and often awkward conversations between Violet and Alex are part of what makes this remarkably unique.

If you didn’t know, the book centers around (pun intended) the captain and center for the Chicago Blackhawks.

This book was so good that even I, a huge St. Louis Blues fan and Blackhawk despiser, fell in love with the story and characters.

The gift giving is a little over the top, but the fun possibilities with a $1000 gift card to Victoria’s Secret is a thrill to the imagination.

The Chicago Fire is a hot soccer team, but the real heat in this book is between Levi and Vista.

If a parent tries take away a child’s candy, the child is more than likely going want to have it even more.  That was certainly the case for Levi.  His father insisted that he not date Vista.  He can fight the thoughts of her during the day, but is plagued with dreams of being with her at night.

Vista can work as much as she wants but there’s no way to get Levi out of her head when, “He looks rough.  Dirty.  Mountable.”

The sexual tension between Levi and Vista is palpable.  I almost hesitate to use that word only because it is often over used in romance reviews.  However, the mounting connection between them is practically tangible.

After getting caught succumbing to their attraction, they are ripped apart again.  But even after being reunited again, they end up being separated yet another time.  Their relationship is a bit of a roller coaster.  Considering their young age, it seems more believable than overly dramatic.

My absolutely favorite part was Levi’s proclamation of love on the Jimmy Kimmel show.

“You were right, princess.  It’s you and me.  So don’t lock that door just yet.  Make sure you leave a light on.”

Jaci Burton – Taking a Shot

Baseball season’s over and it’s time for a little hockey.  I realize that this is the second Jaci Burton post that I’ve done in one week.  There’s certain authors that are so good that you miss the stories and characters after you finish reading.  Jaci Burton creates sexy as hell professional athletes.  Her books are not only a must read, but fall into the category of great re-reads.

Jenna and Ty never quite seem to make it to an actual bedroom.  They’re quite creative and are willing to hook up no matter where they are located.

Taking a Shot

Ty isn’t just some good looking athlete.  He’s an incredibly perceptive man and boyfriend.  He understands Jenna more than she realizes and is determined to help her achieve her dreams.

Jenna is a loyal girl with a few hidden talents and some very provocative tattoos and piercings.

Unlike most stories where the man makes the big mistakes, Jenna is the one that needs to eat crow and do her best groveling.  Ty’s response is perfect.

AVAILABLE FOR PRE ORDER

As the series comes to an end, will Suzie end up with Brendon?  The entire novel leaves the reader on pins and needles, waiting the for the other shoe to drop.  Will Brendon return to his abusive former self?  I couldn’t put the book down until I had the answer.

With all the admirers that Suzie has procured, with whom will she end up in the end?

I love how this book separates itself from other BDSM novels.  Most other books have completely romanticized the concept of BDSM, which isn’t to say that the books are bad.  This series breaks from those predictable story lines.

1. This series shows that things aren’t always perfect in a BDSM relationship.  Doms, like Brenden, can be inexperienced.  He really had no clue how to be a good Dom.  In previous books, he never put the needs of his sub first.

2.  BDSM isn’t for everyone.  Jason states, in the beginning of this book, that Suzie isn’t a submissive even though he wishes she should would be his.  Suzie tried to be a good submissive but it just wasn’t in her nature.

3.  Even if you try the lifestyle, you can always stop and still have a kinky fun sex life.  There’s a whole lot of room for creativity between BDSM and boring vanilla missionary.  This is the crux of the heat and steam in Grand Final.

The racy scenes left me needing a cold shower.  Unfortunately, unlike Suzie’s numerous showers, Brendon did not join me.  Damn those book boyfriends!

This is a Must Read Series.  See Related Posts:

Jaci Burton – Changing the Game (Play by Play #2)

2d43e0e8320b4df2155158810a090f6f

In honor of the World Series, this is my suggested read for the week.

Check Out this cover!  Guess what … the writing inside is even hotter.

Liz is a successful sports agent and Gavin is one of her clients.  She’s been in love with him for years.  He is a professional baseball player that has true love and devotion for the game.

Gavin and Liz burn up the sheets (shower and other surfaces) together.  But mixing business with pleasure is complicated.  Throw in some deep emotions and the situation gets more complex.  Liz has close ties to Gavin’s family, which makes the entanglement even more convoluted.

This book is a grand slam hot romance!

Finally, a book where the submissive shows some backbone and starts to stand up for herself.  It’s okay to say NO.  It’s okay to use your safe word.  Neither scenario permanently destroys the nature of the D/s relationship.

The tides start to turn in this 3rd book in the series.  Brendon begins to warm up a bit.  In fact, his warmer moments were extremely hot!

Susie starts to speak up for herself, which is fantastic.  She starts to level the playing field between her and Brendon – pun intended.

Brendon continues to have huge jealousy issues that makes him blind to the important thing in front of him.

Jon Wilde – His Undeniable Desire (The Undeniable #1)

51EBNyZdHwL._SX298_BO1,204,203,200_

There’s no way to tame a bad boy – you’ll always get burned.  But if you have a taste for bad boys, it’s best to find one that had his run and has already been reformed.

This book starts out with heartbreak.  As a reader you see it coming as clearly as if you were watching a scary movie and the killer is hiding behind a closed door.  I could feel myself wanting to shield my eyes and peer through the small slits between my fingers.

The parallel story telling about young twenty somethings trying to date brings the reader to a state of demoralization.  This is a terrible place for a romance reader that loves a happily-ever-after, but it truly makes for an outstanding emotional rebound.

I like how the author points out how in MMA fighting, the key to winning is finding that one moment of opportunity and taking advantage.  This theme is also true in both love and life, which is reflected in the love story.

Jaci Burton – All Wound Up

If you haven’t been reading the Play by Play Series by Jaci Burton – YOU NEED TO START NOW!

In All Wound Up, Tucker and Aubry’s busy work schedules don’t provide them with the opportunity to spend a lot of time together but they certainty make it quality time – hot and intense.  The clothes shedding scenes were filled with heart pounding sexual tension and release.  The heat on the pages made me need a shower after a few of the chapters.

While Tucker and Aubry come from two different types of families, their determination to forge their own paths in their careers makes them a believable couple.  Tucker chooses to become a baseball player in a family of football stars; and Aubrey chooses to follow her pursuit of science academics to become a doctor in a family of business minded parents.

I love the simplicity of Aubry’s physical attraction to Tucker.  She finds him gorgeous in jeans and a button down shirt.  Well, his cut abs and amazing stamina are a bonus.

Tucker’s attraction for Aubry is charming.  While he can compliment her ass and make her feel attractive, he also has a true respect for her quick witted intellect that can get him out of bind when the wrong words slip from his mouth.

One of my favorite lines:

Tucker says to Aubry, “I’m okay with being your dirty little secret, Aubry.”  Then he adds, “For now,” just before kissing her.

I usually don’t have a preference for reading books on an e-reader or an actual book.  For me, there’s an equal balance of pros and cons.  However, I think this series is my one exception.  With a covers like these, it’s nice to be able to check out the cover every time I’m forced to put down the book (and focus on real life).  I conducted a poll in February 2015 to vote on people’s most favorite Jaci Burton cover.  Quarterback Draw won.

Lorraine Loveit – Time On Elimination Final (Playing the Game #5)

Unknown

698bdfaf80d7e11456ea556e1141ecd4

Susie’s war in her head between choosing to be with Jason or Brendon continues in Time On Elimination Final.  She left the hands of one Dominant to the hands of another.  While Jason does have his own playroom, his style of dominating Susie is vastly different than Brendon’s abusive manner.  Jason certainly has his priorities in order, “Seeing to [Susie’s] sexual pleasure – in every conceivable way[.]”  He likes to keep his rules simple: trust and respect.  Jason seems to be the right choice.   He’s hot, amazing in bed, caring, considerate, and openly admits his love for Susie.  However, Susie can’t get thoughts of Brendon out of her head.  She also can’t seem to reciprocate the intensity of Jason’s love for her.  Her conflicts aren’t just between two men.  She isn’t even sure if she is cut out for being a submissive.  Jason starts to doubt her commitment to being a submissive.  Was it just a passing phase?  Was she just dabbling?  To make matters more confusing in Susie’s mind, Brendon is seeking therapy to cure his overly jealous and aggressive nature.  Even more so, he’s willing to give up all the painful types of kink for Susie.

“And that was the $64,000 question – would [Susie] be happy with that Brendon? Probably.  Could [she] leave what [she] had with Jason?  Probably not.”

Why can’t Susie seem to rectify her feelings?  It’s difficult when love is defined with feelings in your heart and not a quantifiable list in your head.  This difficulty is what makes this book a great read.

While this is the fifth book in the Playing the Game series, it can be read as a stand-alone.  The author does a fantastic job of recapping the story at the beginning.  Whether you’re new to series or just have forgotten what happened in the last story – not a problem.

Bonus: Book includes an excerpt form Grand Final “The Last Game.”  Be careful reading this, it ends with a cliff hanger that could lead to death in waiting in anticipation for the final book. 🙂

This book will be released on June 27, 2015.

Jaci Burton – Quarterback Draw

As a fan of the Play-by-Play Series, this one is a win.  Katrina is a supermodel, which initially made me not like her.  But, she is admits to having read a great deal of erotica – that I can relate to.  Grant is a man with the right priorities.  “He wanted to make her come again.  And again.  Until she wanted no one else but him.”  Katrina and Grant are a hot pair and their steamy scenes will make you sweat, too.

The balance between family and romance is what makes this series particularly outstanding.  In addition, being a native of St. Louis, I appreciate how well Jaci Burton incorporated elements of the city.  Her description of the heat reminded me of how brutal the humidity in St. Louis can be in the summer.  Also, she nailed it with the scene at the Jewel Box – it is an amazing place for wedding photos.

I cannot get enough of this series!  My life comes to a halt when I bring one of these books home.  Ripped sports guys that have depth, too.  The characters are amazing and I adore how the characters from all the books are intertwined.  I’ll be racing faster than Gray Preston, in One Sweet Ride, to get the next in the series.  “All Wound Up” is set to be released in August 2015.
