What to learn from this book? If you have a hot neighbor, knock on his door wearing only a lacy pink nighty. Maybe a pair of CFM heels would be good, too. This is a fun story between Simon and Caroline. I enjoyed how Simon oscillated between referring to Caroline as Nighty Girl and Cockblocker and she referred to him as Wallbanger. I thought it was comical how Caroline referred to loss of her “O.” Don’t worry, her affliction (losing her vowel) is not contagious via reading the book. The transition between being friends and becoming a couple was humorous, awkward, scintillating, endearing, and dramatic. It was everything it should be and was told in a marvelous manner. On a side note, Caroline’s passion for baking was a tasty addition to the story that I adored. Of course, my obsession with baking may make me a little biased in that area. Overall, I would recommend this book.

J.R. Ward – The Shadows (Black Dagger Brotherhood #13)
BDB at its best! It’s time to broaden your horizons in this book – vampires are not the only sexy as sin paranormal characters. Hello shadows! Trez and iAm have their day and they are just as uber masculine as their pale brothers. The dark duo show how far they will go to show their love and devotion. Even though Trez is terrified of heights, he takes his queen to the highest restaurant so she can enjoy the view and to an amusement park to ride a roller coaster over and over again. Equally as powerful, is the love between the two brothers and the extent that they will go to ensure the other’s happiness. Do not fret, the muscle-bound fighting giants all make their appearances, too. Once again, the BDB shows their strength not just with their fists but with their support for those within their family. J.R. Ward is certainly well known for her creative names. In The Shadows, I love her complimentary use of the terms queen and wife. It was very fitting for the balance between Trez and iAm. Finally, the female characters claim more power for themselves. Not that the females were weak in earlier novels (certainly not Xhex) but there is a distinguishable shift.
to J.R. Ward!

Colleen Hoover – Losing Hope (Hopeless Book 2)
Is is possible to enjoy a book that leaves you crying? Despite waking up with swollen eyes because I stayed up late finishing this book and cried for a good time after, I did like the book. I admit it, sometimes I do like a good cry. I chalk it up to being female. Don’t get me wrong, this a true romance book and it promises a happily ever after. Since this book is a retelling of the story from Hopeless, except told from Holder’s point of view, the main story line was not a surprise. Actually, it was knowing that I was guaranteed a happily ever after was what got me through this story.
I loved how the surprising twists were revealed in Hopeless, but the drama in Losing Hope was sensational. It was painful and heartbreaking. It was excruciatingly delightful. Isn’t that what you want from a book? Colleen Hoover does a tremendous job of explicitly making the reader feel Dean Holder’s pain, concern, frustration, and uncertainty. I felt like I was transported into the tornado of Dean’s emotional drama.
If you revel getting lost in a romantic book, I think you will enjoy this book, too.
Jessie Evans – Melt With Me (Fire and Icing Book 1)
I love a book about reconnecting with young love. Just because two people fall in love during their teenage years doesn’t necessarily mean that it wasn’t true, real, and valuable. Sometimes it takes time and life experiences to realize how important that first love was. And hey, a little extra sexual experience can’t hurt – its a great way to hone one’s skills. The length of the book is short but it is not short on character depth. I felt like I really understood the facets of the characters and their struggles. Jake is a hot firefighter that doesn’t want to risk his heart again, even for someone that consumed his head for over a decade. Naomi must fight to get Jake to open himself up to her again. She struggles with his initial rejection, which is a lot to handle after having to deal with the loss of her premie daughter. I plan on reading the other books in the series.
Lorelei James – Cowboy Casanova: Rough Riders, Book 12
This series drives me insane. Each new book I read, I say it is my new favorite. Those McKay men are hot, determined, wicked, fun, and loving all at the same time. The female characters are all strong and independent.
You know they always say it’s the quiet ones. Well, Bennet McKay may be the quiet one in his family, but he isn’t anything but dominant in the bedroom. He’s a cowboy with talented roping skills and knows how to yield a whip for more things than just herding cattle. What makes him great is ultimately his ability to compromise. Being a good Dom requires prioritizing the needs of the sub.
Ainsley is smart, successful banker. She holds a powerful position at the bank. Learning the power of being a sub allows her to finally find happiness in a relationship.
Bennet and Ainsley’s playtime at a club blooms into an affair outside of the club scene. BDSM is not just about playing out scenes but has place in everyday relationships as well. Just like any marriage between adults, this can take on many variations.
I appreciated the character, Dalton, who is young and falsely misinterprets the entire BDSM scene. His moment of enlightenment was a wonderful way of explaining the intimacy involved in a BDSM bond.

Anwen Stiles – Jasmine Plays Her Hand
Get a bunch of woman together to discuss erotic novels and what do you get? The formation of the Fantasy Guild and a well-planned poker party with 5 men and one eager to please waitress. Each man has a clearly defined persona. I loved how Sir taught one of the younger members of the group some improved technique. Geoff masterfully coordinates the activities. All in all, the men are rough but respectful, leaving Jasmine in a euphoric sex-filled fog.
Quick, Hot, Erotic Read.
Bethany Shaw – The Best Mistake
Need a feel-good book? This is a shorter romance book that hooked me from the beginning. It’s about a group in their mid to late twenties. The story line kept moving forward. Of course, the characters endure some bumps and bruises along the way in their relationships, but the author doesn’t string-out the reader for a hundred pages until that particular issue is resolved. This makes it a perfect read after a stressful day. Sometimes it is nice to have problems resolved quickly.
All the characters are real and relatable. They are all very self sufficient, but their stubborn to a fault. Their fears and challenges highlight typical issues of their age while easily keeping the reader’s attention. I didn’t want to put the book down.
Kristen Ashley – Fire Inside
Once you get acquainted with the biker-lingo, you won’t be able to put this series down. It is incredibly hot how the male characters in this series can convey emotion and intent with so few words. They say what they mean. There are no head games or trying to read between the lines. While it is done in a very bossy sort of way, it is also refreshing and provocative all at the same time.
Despite being curt with his words, Hopper Kincaid is great at manipulating situations. He is able to cloak an invitation with a compliment while making it impossible to be refused. The best part of Hop is that he is astute enough to see through Lanie’s issues in her head that she doesn’t even understand herself. He may seem very rough on the outside, but how much thought he puts into Lanie’s feelings, it is obvious that he is actually very caring. When Lanie doubts Hopper, Hopper responds, “Lady, I’m as real as it gets.”
Lanie is beautiful on the outside, but her road to becoming strong and healthy on the inside make her even more beautiful in the end. I love how she finds strength even when she is almost paralyzed with doubt and fear.
By the way, the heat in this book is off the charts. What a great read!

Courtney Cole – If You Stay
Opposites attract, right? Well, Pax and Mila on the outside seem to be opposites. Pax is the bad boy with lots of tattoos and Mila is a conservative small town girl. It is the stuff on the outside that threatens to keep them apart. Pax feels that he is not good enough for Mila. Mila is hesitant because she fears that Pax will hurt her. Pax promises,
“I will try very hard not to hurt you, … I’m fucked up. So I can’t promise that I won’t. But I promise that I will try.”
That is all that anyone can really promise. Their attraction is actually based on their commonalities. Despite difficulties that both suffered as children, the idea that “Love Never Fails” was a strong impression made upon both.
The love that grows between them is a beautiful connection, but is not without its painful moments and they must deal with some heartbreaking realities. If you liked the Beautiful Series by Jamie McGuire, you should give this book a try.
