This is #18 in the Anita Blake Series. This is a series that seems to get better and better.
I originally read this book a couple of years ago, but I just recently listened to the audiobook. I have read all 24 books in main part of the series and 2 of the novellas. After reading that many books about one characters its hard not to develop expectations for the characters. The voice of Anita on the audio is sensational.
This book marks a bit of change in the Anita Blake Series. There is a significant departure in the balance of sensuality and the violent paranormal activity. The book is more heavily weighted towards relationship issues than paranormal battles. As a romance novel addict, I really appreciate the change. This book is edgy and intense.
One thing that makes Anita an unusual heroine (well there’re actually many) is that while she is involved with many exceptionally beautiful men, she doesn’t discriminate if they are flawed all at the same time. The fact that Nicky is missing his right eye doesn’t diminish his sex appeal in the eyes of Anita. Her acceptance of many issues is just one of the things that makes her an incredibly cool character.

Marco ‘Polo’ DeAngelis makes for a sexy Dom. He steps up in numerous ways when challenges are presented to him. He’s got his priorities in order. And, he’s very creative in a playroom. 😉
Harper is an attorney. It’s great to see a sub that can be intelligent and in a powerful career position.
Awesome gratuitous threesome scene. Sure, it wasn’t exactly critical to the story. It does show a bit of willingness on the part of the Dom. I love that it is the first time that a certain obvious stumbling block was addressed in the middle of this scene. So, in response to such an added bonus – thank you.

The author does a great job of layering the elements of suspense in the story. I also liked how the Trident security team worked with local law enforcement as opposed acting completely above the law without consequences.
As per usual in the awesome series, the entire cast makes a significant presence in the story.

This Week’s Feature Book Teaser: One With You by Sylvia Day

Recently released, this is the 5th in the Crossfire Series! After waiting nearly a year and half since the 4th book in the series was published, I have to say: it was worth the frustratingly long wait! The story was well thought out. Not everything ends in a perfectly happily ever after, but all loose ends are addressed.
Honestly, I was a bit irritated when I finished book four and it ended in a cliff hanger (yet again). I felt like the author was trying to stretch out the series unnecessarily. I stand corrected. The way that Sylvia Day completed the series was spectacular.
If you’re reading this review, I assume that you are familiar with Gideon and Eva and the series. There’s a lot of emotional growth for all the characters in the series. None of the characters attain perfection, which is nice in the sense that it is much more realistic.
After 10 days of celibacy (I mean really did you think Gideon and Eva could actually keep their hands off of each other?) the sex is off the charts. However, the period of abstinence offered a lot of opportunity for some humor.
There’s unexpected heartache. I love that it’s unpredictable but not completely out of place.
Finally, there’s also a new character … Lucky. He’s adorable and helps teach Gideon to accept unconditional love.

This book blurb drew me in, maybe it will for you, too.
Another affair? If you can’t beat them…join.
Angelina Fuentes really hates fending off women who stick to her husband like bees to honey. When her powerful bad boy hires a sexy new cleaning lady named Kristi DuPont, Matteo Fuentes is in danger of messing up big time. This is his last shot to prove to his wife he can be faithful. Or, should Angelina accept boys will be boys and girls will be better?
To keep her marriage intact, Angelina offers a ménage a trois. There’s just one problem: All three of them are in this for different reasons. Angelina is making the ultimate sacrifice out of love. Matteo wants to have his cake and eat it, too. But Kristi isn’t there to satisfy Matteo. She’s there for his wife. She’s there for revenge.
Get what you deserve when you order this dangerously good book from contemporary romance writer, Sondi Warner. Just be sure to hang onto your seats. This ménage a trois thriller will throw you for a loop!
The premise of this book is sensationally unique. It was an outstanding blend of suspense and sexual heat.
Holy Hades HOT! This is my first F/F/M novel. The steamy scenes are blooding boiling hot.
The crime part was fairly well constructed. I liked that there were a number of side characters that made the story more complicated. However, too many clues foreshadowed the end. I would have liked more surprise.
The book also had a number of other elements that I respected:

Just like a boxer needs to stay on their toes during fight, this book keeps the reader on his/her toes. I like all the twists to the story. This is one of those books that gets better page by page. One of the best Epilogues that I have read.
The theme that you need to focus on the good things in life resonates throughout the book. It’s presented in meaningful and very alluring ways. It never comes across as an annoying cliche, where the author seems to be preaching to the readers.
The main characters are compelling and well suited for one another. They both come from abusive pasts, but neither wants to be defined by their history, but rather their triumph in spite of it.
Jagger makes for a a great bad-boy romantic hero. He is hot but flawed. He is a champion in the underground fighting arena, but there is a darkness in his need to fight. On the other hand, he is fully committed to fostering a relationship with Tatiana and has a plan in place to ensure her happiness. At the forefront he wants to comfort her in her time of need and protect her from further abuse. Not until then, does he intend to claim her.
Despite being abused by her father, Tatiana isn’t just a damsel in distress. She is intelligent, resilient, and strong. She is also able to stand up to Jagger when necessary.
My favorite scene (not going to give away too much) was absolutely hysterically funny. You would expect that the scene would be sappy and romantic. Instead, it was like sitting through a roast for the characters where you can feel the surrounding characters’ love and respect.
Just as Tatiana fell in love with the Caldwell family, so did I. While this is a stand alone book, I think I would have preferred to have read this series from the beginning.

Just friends.We’re just friends.
No, really. She’s just my best friend…
Arizona Turner has been my best friend since fourth grade, even when we “hated” each other. We’ve been there for one another through first kisses, first “times,” and we’ve been each other’s constant when good relationships turned bad. (We even went to colleges that were minutes away from each other…)
Throughout the years, and despite what anyone says, we’ve never crossed the line.
Never thought about it.
Never wanted to.
Until one night changed everything.
At least, it should’ve …
Just friends.
We’re just friends.
I’m only saying this until I figure out if she’s still “just” my best friend…
I actually listened to the audiobook rather reading the book. Not that this affects the story, but I find it that it’s an important distinction. For me, it is usually harder to enjoy audiobooks than written ones. So, when I say I LOVED this book – it means even more because I was listening to the audiobook rather than reading it.
THE STORY:
I COULD NOT STOP LISTENING TO THIS STORY. The book had me laughing out loud while I listened while driving and while sitting in pick-up line. People kept staring at me because of my “inexplicable outbursts.”
The heartache in this story may be the best I’ve ever read. It goes on for an unusually extended period of time. As a reader, one can feel the pain and desperation. I realize it sounds a bit wrong to be cheering for pain in a story, but that’s what good romance is all about: heartache followed by a happily ever after.
Many of the chapters go back in time when Carter and Arizona are young, (4th grade through beginning of college). I thought the dialog for the younger years was spot on.
The way the author wrapped up the ending was sensational. The only problem was that I was disappointed that the book was over. This is definitely going in my pile of to read again.
I enjoyed the voices for both Carter and Arizona. The voice for Josh, Carter’s friend, was a little Trump-like. It was a bit distracting because it reminded me of late night talk show hosts poking fun at Trump.
