Shayla Black – His to Take

51H5mLVe89L._AA160_

What a potent combination: (1) running from a murdeous mad-man; (2) hiding in a BDSM club; and (3) sizzling chemistry between a ballet dancer and an elite military man.

Joaquin finds the Dom in himself.  His military background makes him a take-chargge kind of guy, but he has to learn to open his heart.  One of my favorite quotes of his,

“You’re like the drug that I can’t get enough of.  When I’m not inside you, all I can think about is fucking you.   When I am, I don’t think of anything but filling you completely and owning you.”

Bailey is innocent but strong at the same time.  Her emotional conflict brought a realism to the story.  She enjoyed being spanked for the first time but was too embarrassed to admit it.

Joaquin promises Bailey a sensational time.

“I love the sound of you begging baby girl.  Now I’m ready to hear you scream.”

Like the military man he is, Joaquin completes his mission and Bailey finally realizes the addictive nature of outstanding sex.

Cake Balls

Cake Balls

Extra cake, frosting, and some chocolate – why not make some cake balls?  Last week, I made a multi-layer birthday cake.  Each layer, must be leveled (slicing off the top of each cake so that top and bottom are perfectly parallel).  This is essential to making a cake look “professional.” While it is one extra step in the process, it’s one that my kids most appreciate – the extra cake that is.  Usually I just let my kids snack on the extra cake.  Because I had actually baked 6 layers of cake there was a LOT of extra cake.  In fact, there was so much cake that I took five of the “tops of cake” and made an entire extra layer cake.  Okay, it looked terrible, but my kids didn’t complain while eating it.  I still had an extra full layer of chocolate cake and a bit of chocolate frosting left over.  I threw the extra cake in the food processor and mixed it with the extra frosting.   I chilled the mixture and formed small balls.  After popping the balls in the freezer for a bit, I coated them in chocolate coating (I had a lot of chocolate left over from the cake, too).  I realize that the cake ball craze is pretty much over, but they still are a great treat. Unfortunately, they are very labor intensive, which makes them expensive to purchase and a pain to make.  This was an ideal time to make the cake balls.  I had all the ingredients on hand and I would hate to be wasteful.

Thus, one man’s trash is a dessert lover’s treasure.

Blackhawks Birthday Cake

Just made this for my best friend’s birthday.  Inside the cake are 5 layers of cake that match the frosting on the outside: red velvet, white, and midnight black cake.  The logo and letters on top are all done in chocolate.

As I’ve mentioned in other posts, I’m originally from St. Louis.  Needless to say, I am NOT a Blackhawks fan.  However, my best friend is a HUGE Blackhawks fan; she never misses a game.  I considered hiding some blue and yellow frosting in the center of the cake, but I managed to refrain.  However, on the back of her birthday card, I included a picture of the St. Louis Blue’s logo.  And, I wore a blue shirt while delivering the cake.

Time will tell which city hosts the better hockey team.

Lorelei James – Cowgirls Don’t Cry

51IYppTDzXL._AA160_

This is the 10th book in the Rough Riders Series.

This book grabs the reader’s attention from the get-go – an all call for a threesome on page 1.  But that’s par for the course with those wild McKay boys.

Don’t be fooled by the title, this isn’t a story about some tame dame cowgirl.  All her tears for her husband, Luke McKay, are in the past.  Jessie has a warm and giving heart but she isn’t afraid to make her own sexual demands.  Jessie confronts Brandt, “[I]f we’re gonna act like a married couple then I want you naked in my bed every night.”

How would a man react to a line like that from a women that he has wanted for years? Getting the answer to that question is just another reason to read this book.  Let’s just say, that the strong, toned, well-built, dominant Brandt lives up to the McKay name.   I’m surprised the heat inside the trailer didn’t melt all the snow on the Wyoming ranch.

Great romance authors make the reader fall in love with the characters. The descriptions of their build, the way in which they speak, and their prowess in bed electrify the characters and make them hot and desirable. I love to re-read the best of the best, but sometimes there isn’t enough time. S.C. Stephens – Thoughtful

Unknown-2

This is part of the Thoughtless Series.  In terms of the story line it parallels the the first novel, Thoughtless, but is told from Kellan’s point of view.

Loved Thoughtless?  You absolutely MUST read Thoughtful!  This is not some regurgitation of Thoughtless with a simple change of POV.  It is a completely different emotional ride.  A very intense ride.   My heart was breaking for 545 pages.  S.C. Stephens makes you feel Kellan’s pain.  It is everything you were dying to know while you read Thoughtless.  Kellan is a very guarded character, so while he speaks certain words, he thinks many other things.  It is these other feelings and emotions that are shared in Thoughtful.  Yes, he is a “moody artist” and his “moods” are described in an amazingly articulate and heart wrenching manner.  It is a roller coaster of emotions as Kellan is brought to feel hope, happiness, and love but then the rug is pulled out from under him and is left falling into a deep pit of despair.  I honestly felt it in my stomach as if I were falling, too.

This is a love triangle story like no other.  If you only have time to read one romance book this year, this is the one to read.

Peanut Butter Fudge

Screen Shot 2015-03-01 at 6.20.12 PM

Fudge is a deceptive dessert.  It doesn’t look very special – simply cut into cubes of some sort.  You can’t always tell whether it is soft or hard by just looking at it.  But when it is perfectly smooth and the balance of flavor and sugar is ideal, fudge is heavenly.  Tonight, it turned out superb.  (Which was a good thing, because last week’s fudge was a disaster)  Whether the fudge is yummy or nah, baking with my daughter is a heartwarming occasion.

Book 1 – The Heart Won’t Lie by Vicki Lewis Thompson

Here, the main character is an author of westerns with romance.  This is a perfect set-up for a story because if he can write romance then he should be great in bed.  (Tee Hee!)  In fact, Michael ends up being so motivated from his relationship with Keri, he writes an additional heated love scene.  The chemistry between the characters works well because of the threads of commonalities that they share and the direction that their lives are moving.

Book 2 – To the Limit by Jo Leigh

This is a great story to read if you ever had a Top Gun, Tom Cruise fantasy.  Does it get any better than a fighter pilot?  Answer, yes it does.  A fighter pilot that has wanted a girl for years and is grounded from flying due to an eye injury.  That’s a whole lot of frustration and energy to get out between the sheets.  The ultimate question is what is the measure of love: what are you willing to give up for it?

Book 3 – Half-Hitched by Isabel Sharpe

Love is in the air at a friend’s wedding.  Two friends each find the person they’re meant to be with.  You know it is hot, when after having sex a number of times, one couple realizes that they have never been together in an actual bed.  Sometimes loves comes at you quickly and knocks you over the head.  Other times it takes years.  Both, can be just as real and astounding.  All relationships can be risky.  If you really love someone, then they are worth the risk.

Nanaimo Bars – A Canadian Dessert

Naniamo Bars

I first found this recipe during the 2010 Winter Olympics in British Columbia.  Oddly enough, I had a recent request to make the bars again. They are a great textual blend of sweets.  The base is a mix of graham, chocolate, coconut, pecans and sugar.  It is dense and a bit nutty.  The middle layer offers a smooth creamy vanilla compliment.  It is then topped off with a thin layer of chocolate.  If cut into bite size portions, one can enjoy all the flavors at once.
