Emily Ruben – I Was A Bitch

REVIEW

I love how the author puts the reader in the position of Lacey’s perspective, clueless as to what had happened in her life. I couldn’t stop turning the pages to find out what had transgressed in her life. I love how the author slowly reveals Lacey’s story.

There were a few too many issues thrown into one book. Some of the minor incidents involving ancillary characters seemed to slow the progression of the story more than just heighten the angst. Perhaps I was just antsy to have “mystery” revealed. On the other hand, some of these extra characters were written in an extremely credible manner.

Finn is an adorably lovable character. He was a bit too perfect. If he had some flaws he could have been a bit more realistic and interesting. His character was too much of a prince charming.

Overall, I enjoyed the story and I would give it 4 stars.

Bruce Miller – I Came, I Saw, I Coffeed

REVIEW

I love the humor and light heartedness in this title and the stories within were equally entertaining. The short stories about a man’s online to real life dating experiences are a cornucopia of happy, funny, delightful, and engaging stories. Between each story, the author includes an apropos quote. These too, are remarkably on point and funny.

I would buy this book for somebody that was feeling down about the dating process, recently out of a relationship, as a funny grab gift, or as a humorous Valentine’s gift.

One of my favorite quotes from the book is

“If you don’t look anything like the person in your online picture, you’re buying me drinks ’till you do.”

BLURB

I Came, I Saw, I Coffeed Online Dating: Why Didn’t He Call Me Back? What Goes Through a Man’s Mind on the First Meet? Impressions from a Man Who Had Over 350 First Meetups. Have you ever wondered what goes through a man’s mind when you first meet? “Why didn’t he ask me out again? What did he think of me?” “Did I say the wrong thing?” I was newly singled after an unwanted divorce and retired early, so I had time on my hands to find a girlfriend. I didn’t want to be alone, and hadn’t dated in years. I was eager to meet a woman, and became discouraged trying to find someone to be your love, your best trusted friend, a confidant and companion — a very difficult task. Seeing my low spirits to get on with searching to find a woman, a good friend simply told me dating is “Just a game of numbers — the more ladies you meet, the better decision you’ll make.” So, I ventured into the field of online dating and over three years met over 350 ladies. Many women asked me what goes through a man’s mind when he meets a woman. In this book I spell out my thoughts about the women I met, her walk, her appearance, demeanor, clothes, habits, figure, etc. in detail.

Bruce Miller is a member of the Team at Golfwell and has written about various topics – mostly golf humor.  Bruce worked hard to fight off his depression caused by an unwanted divorce and adventured boldly into online dating and recorded his impressions in his new book “I Came, I Saw, I Coffeed, Online Dating: Why Didn’t He Call Me Back?”
Bruce met a few hundred women over three years and found many women wondered what goes through a man’s mind on the first meet. Women would wonder what went wrong?  Did I wear the wrong dress? Did I come on too strong?
“So, I wrote a book on what goes through a man’s mind on the first online meetup.  I hope my thoughts will give women more insight into a man’s mind and make them more relaxed on the first online date with a gentleman after reading my book.”

REVIEW

The Chicago Fire is a hot soccer team, but the real heat in this book is between Levi and Vista.

If a parent tries take away a child’s candy, the child is more than likely going want to have it even more.  That was certainly the case for Levi.  His father insisted that he not date Vista.  He can fight the thoughts of her during the day, but is plagued with dreams of being with her at night.

Vista can work as much as she wants but there’s no way to get Levi out of her head when, “He looks rough.  Dirty.  Mountable.”

The sexual tension between Levi and Vista is palpable.  I almost hesitate to use that word only because it is often over used in romance reviews.  However, the mounting connection between them is practically tangible.

After getting caught succumbing to their attraction, they are ripped apart again.  But even after being reunited again, they end up being separated yet another time.  Their relationship is a bit of a roller coaster.  Considering their young age, it seems more believable than overly dramatic.

My absolutely favorite part was Levi’s proclamation of love on the Jimmy Kimmel show.

“You were right, princess.  It’s you and me.  So don’t lock that door just yet.  Make sure you leave a light on.”

BLURB

Levi Black is an s.o.b.Born with a silver spoon in his mouth, he’s a pretentious, obnoxious, womanizing jacka** who thinks the world revolves around him.

He wouldn’t be wrong.

A famous soccer player, his skills on and off the field have won him medals, trophies, women, and the cover of every heartthrob magazine in the country. He’s broken nearly every bone in his body and a few hearts along the way, including mine—his stepsister—and lived to tell about it.

One night changed everything, and I’ve avoided him like the plague ever since. Just long enough to finish college, to bury the hurt, and to outrun the memories. But now that’s all changed. I’m back, and there’s no more running.

My hands are supposed to be my livelihood, but now they’re my curse. Levi’s reckless ways have landed him in a sticky situation, and his father has given me an offer I can’t refuse. One month, and all I have to do is put my hands on his body. Easier said than done. The problem is, even though I know it’s bound to bite me in the a**, I can’t bring myself to say no to the s.o.b.

J.B. Havens & Samantha A. Cole – No Way In Hell (Part One & Two)

32479109.jpg32587959.jpg

Review

I’m a huge fan of the Trident Security novels by Samantha A. Cole. I’ve read and loved the entire series. I have never read J.B. Havens’ Steel Corps series. I make note of this because I think it is important to be upfront about how I go into reviewing a book.

First item you must know: these two books must be read together. It really is just one continuous story.

Second, these books are much more military based than romance (like the Trident Security). There is only a dab of romance.

Part I

This was a serious deviation from Samantha Cole’s Trident Security.  The story line was mostly military. The military scenes were full of intensity and graphic details. It was a little too gory for my taste. I missed the BDSM club from Trident. There are a few quick vanilla romps and a mere reference to Carter playing at BDSM club. I had a great appreciation for the heat in the Trident Series. I missed it in this book. This is also a multi-perspective book told in both first and third person. This combination is not typical, but I didn’t mind it. I’ve always been a fan of Carter. I liked getting to know Mic. She’s small but mighty.

Part II

This book was a bit more playful as Carter and Mic go undercover together. I prefer books that are fun and flirty. The military and suspense aspects were much more appealing in Part II. The scenes were extremely well thought out and had a lot of detail. The difference was the military parts were more intellectual than gruesome.

LOVED THE ENDING!

Blurb

No Way in Hell is a novel separated into 2 novellas. Reading Book 1 is necessary for Book 2.

Steel Corps—an elite, covert U.S. military team led by Staff Sergeant Bea ‘Mic’ Michaels, based out of a secure location in Pennsylvania.

Trident Security—a private security agency located in Tampa, Florida, comprised of retired Navy SEALs.

T. Carter—U.S. spy and assassin.

What do they have in common? They all do Uncle Sam’s dirty work.

How did they get started and how did their paths cross? Find out as they prepare to join forces to take down a domestic terrorist organization with one goal in mind—to destroy what these men and one woman will fight to the death to protect—life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

No Way in Hell is a two-part crossover novel uniting J.B. Haven’s Steel Corps Series and Samantha A. Cole’s Trident Security Series. While reading both series is not necessary prior to reading No Way in Hell, it is recommended for optimum enjoyment

REVIEW

Review of Story: I truly enjoyed the story. The story unfolded sweetly like a blooming rose. It was sweet like the scent of rose. It had some intensely difficult part to read like the thorns on a rose bush. I love the baseball backdrop for what amounts to a clean romance with the theme of conquering one’s past, with an added splash of the trials and tribulations of dealing with those with alzheimers’s . Roberta’s past was well constructed. Unlike most history of domestic abuse characters this character included a bit how she dealt with the issue before meeting the love of her life. I liked that there wasn’t anything simple about this character. Luke’s character was a bit more straight forward. I liked the realism that he was a minor league baseball player and not the tallest of the lot. His heart made him a very lovable character.

Review of Audio: Gary Furlong did a nice job of narrating Luke’s character. His voice and delivery seemed to compliment Luke’s easy going character and warm nature. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for Aundrea Mitchell’s audio part for Roberta. The cadence of her voice made it agonizing to listen to her speak. She literally pauses after every grouping of 3 to 4 words. The repetition made it tiring to listen to her chapters.

I always finish every book that I agree to review. This book was difficult to finish because of Aundrea Mitchell’s poor audio part.

LOVED the BOOK; LOATHED the AUDIO

BLURB

Having had her share of heartbreak, she heads to Stockton hoping for a fresh start. But after she finds Luke’s mom outside, lost, and alone, she can’t refuse when he hires her on the spot. Unbeknownst to Luke, Roberta is all too familiar with the violent tendencies of the pitcher who hit him. Now that they’re living under the same roof, the last thing either of them is looking for is a relationship. But it’s not long before they find themselves drawn to each other. And right when Luke is thinking about finally making a change to his single status, a secret from Roberta’s past emerges with the power to tear them apart.

About the Author
Collette West grew up as somewhat of a jock-nerd hybrid. Entering the world three weeks premature, her dad nearly missed her birth because he had seats behind the dugout for a sold-out, highly-anticipated match-up between two of baseball’s biggest rivals. Not to be outdone, her book-loving mom taught her how to read by the time she was three. A love of the game coupled with an appreciation for the written word were instilled in Collette‘s impressionable brain from a young age. No wonder her characters believe in the philosophy: sports + romance = a little slice of heaven.

Splitting her time between the Pocono Mountains and Manhattan, Collette indulges her inner fangirl by going to as manygames as she can from hockey to baseball and downloading every sports romance novel in existence onto her iPad. When she’s not clicking away on her laptop, she enjoys walking her dog in Central Park, satisfying her caffeine craving at the Starbucks on Broadway and keeping an eye out for Mr. Right. But above all, she loves dishing with her readers. Email her at collette_west@yahoo.com.

She is the author of the New York Kings series which includes: NIGHT GAMES, GAME CHANGER, GAME ON, PERFECTGAME, INSIDE GAME and GAME WINNER.

He can make listeners laugh, cry, seethe, think and feel and loves working with authors and writers to bring their message to audio! REVIEW

This is a short book packed with a lot of heat. I’m not usually a fan of short books because I like to have time to get know a character for a while.  This books jumps right in and I couldn’t help but get attached to the characters quickly.

I like how this Rock Star is in his thirties. It makes the story feel more realistic, because he’s reached an age and maturity where he is tamable.

There was suspense element to this book that I wasn’t expecting. It ties in really well to the first book in this series. I love the continuity between the books in this series.

I’m eagerly looking forward to the next in the series.

I know her better than she knows herself.
